I love Pan's Labyrinth. When I saw Devil's Backbone, I knew that Guillermo del Toro had the right idea when it came to creating a visual look and feel to his films. Hell, even Mimic and Blade II were made enjoyable on their own terms.
I also love Lord of the Rings, the book and the movies. I love that the movies felt as if there were no other way that mythical, literary world could be brought to life looking and feeling any other way than the way they were presented. I love that Peter Jackson took a huge risk and, despite the faults of the films (there are many), I am still able to revisit them and be amazed by what I see.
So when these two guys--- del Toro and Jackson--- say they're going to team up and make not one, but two films based on both The Hobbit and the lost tales bridging that story with the larger epic, how can I not feel anything less than orgasmic? Like, truly, orgasming from my eye sockets. It's messy, but oh so good.
And, yes, it's definitely going to happen.
