People Say The Stupidest Things
I'm starting a new series on things I overhear stupid people saying. And here's your first one...
I overheard this little gem sitting in Tourway with my buddy Erik.
"If we get universal health care, you won't be able to get into the emergency room."
Well, gee buddy. That's a good point, isn't it? You'll have to wait longer in the emergency room, because all of those who need it will be getting treated. People who will otherwise suffer through and try to make it because they don't have the money for treatment are going to get in your way when you need a tetanus shot. I mean, it isn't like the doctors are going to prioritize by the seriousness of the injury... like they do now. Great argument, there.
The really outrageous thing is that he and his companion started talking about Jesus directly afterward. Apparently He stands on the "don't give others what they need, because you might have to wait for your own needs" side of things.
To add injury to insult, apparently I read the wrong translation, because half of what they "quoted" from the Bible wasn't in there when I read it... and I'm on my second read-through. Hence the "Love thy neighbor, unless they start horning in on your benefits" passage.
