In the United States, unemployment and poverty are lurking everywhere. People too poor to afford health care allow themselves and their children to go untreated.
Everyday we get closer and closer to Mars and landing our astonauts there. Countless sums of money go into these space exploration programs.
Although the knowledge we gain in space may spark our interests, and the prospect of extraterrestrial life may be intriguing, how does this information improve our conditions on earth right now? Does it not make sense for us to improve our living conditions here before we create new ones elsewhere? Surely the priorities of our government mus be misplaced when we cut back funding for the weak, elderly, and otherwise indisposed, to send a chimp into space.
