[A continuation of a thread started in the meme, which you can't read because the page is broken.]Turn of the century Paris, France, it really was a lovely time. In a case of drunk mishaps and confusion, the Doctor had accidentally spent the night at a brothel, but the woman he had met there, despite being oddly far too fascinated with his old ( Read more... )

By some miracle and a lot of hard work, River had found him. Years spent searching the annals of history for a sign of the hidden Doctor, months flitting in and out of all the wrong centuries, and by chance he'd stumbled into the brothel she'd found herself stuck in after her vortex manipulator had croaked. River was ecstatic.

To say she'd had her eye on him was an understatement. Either she herself or an eye from the street she'd paid well had been following him all day. She was not about to let that man out of her sight, not until she had him back as the Timelord he was meant to be. Human just didn't suit him.

That afternoon a patron had requested one of the women accompany him to the theater. A few of the women, River included, carried a certain social mystique and a request such as this was not entirely out of the ordinary. Knowing full well The Docter would be there, River had accepted the offer.

That said, she feigns surprise well when she sees him in the lobby. "Monsieur Smith, how do you do this evening?" She asks

SO glad work is over for a while captoftardis October 16 2012, 07:38:48 UTC
He was definitely, and pleasantly, surprised, as his features softened and he smiled. "Oh, quite lovely!" It was refreshing to be speaking English as he barely had all day, "I was invited by the company here tonight... Are you with someone?"

Perhaps her date had stepped away a moment, just as he had from his party.

River stepped closer and offered her hand in pleasant greeting. It was amusing to her how clumsy his French had been the night before and he seemed relieved to be back in English.

"I am, yes. I've just stepped out for a bit of air." No need to expand on who her "date" actually was. River smiled brightly. "It's a delight to have run into you again. I thought you would have left Paris by now."

"No, no not yet!" He smiles softly, "There's alot of work to be done, and we're only in the beginning. Just a few days left, though, and I'll be back in London for a while."

He stands there somewhat awkwardly, but then manages to relax. "I don't want to keep you away, but perhaps we'll see each other during the intermission? I'd like the share a glass of wine with you... You can bring your date!" He didn't want to seem like he was trying to steal her away or anything like that, "That is if you don't mind."

[ooc: yeah, just noticed that with my last comment and was planning to anyway. :)]

River slipped her arm into the sling, gritting her teeth but determined not to make a noise. She grit down harder when he took hold of her arm, her face set in the hard line she refused to verbally express. When he popped it in though, she couldn't help it, she gasped and lurched forward, slapping him in the face as reflex

"Right. Arm's back." She shook it once, winced slightly, and pat him on the chest in apology. "Thanks."

And then she remembered the moment on the train-losing him as he stared at the watch. "Doctor. Your pocket-watch. What was going on?"

He scowled with that slap. What was that for!? He managed to get his shirt back and was redressing himself as they started walking.

"What? Oh... I dunno." He hadn't thought about it until she said something and he pulled it back out. "It's cracked..." He muttered, pausing in stride to look at it.

Funny enough, once again he thought he could hear whispers around him. Different voices, although all mostly sounding male in nature. "I... erm... Need to get it fixed... Perhaps properly this time....A real working watch, y'know...."

She stopped alongside him to peer over his shoulder at the cracked pocketwatch. She couldn't hear the whispers, but she could feel a strange buzz in the air when he held it out.

"It's calling out to you, isn't it? There's something about it," she probed. "A draw. You can feel it, can't you, sweetie?"

"A...draw?" He breaks his gaze to look up at River confused. "Yes, I suppose so. It's.... Erm, very strange." He glances back down, "'s just a watch."

He touches the cracks on the lid of it, before remembering they had to get to London. It wasn't going to get any warmer staying out here. He finally pockets it, smiles at River, and continues forward.
