So, I had an exciting adventure while driving around today (because I got my license last Tuesday! woo hoo!). I went to Super Jock n' Jill's by Greenlake. There was crap for parking, except for ONE parallel parking spot, which I was not about to try, because I'm a wuss (even though my driving tester guy complimented me on my parallel parking job during the test... hee hee). So, I parked in the Evan's pool parking lot. That was okay. I got some new running shoes and some inserts that will hopefully help my hip and leg out a bit by correcting my stride somewhat. Also good.

So, I go back to the car, and I'm using the spare key, because Claire has our car and I'm using my mom's. The spare doesn't have the little beeper thing on it. So when I unlock the door, the goddamn alarm goes off! I get in, trying to make it shut off, and it does it on its own. Okay. Exciting, but not that bad. I put the key in the ignition, try to turn the car on, and the alarm goes off again. What the fuck. There's an old woman giving me the evil eye because my car's alarm has just gone off twice, the parking lot is packed with people who would love to take my spot, and I can't get the goddamn thing to work. So, I fiddle with all the locks and stuff, trying to trick the car into thinking it doesn't need to go off again. But it does, because it hates me. So I call home and ask my mom what to do. I guess I need the beeper itself, but because I have my mom's car and everyone else is gone, there aren't any cars home. So I try calling Claire to have her come save me, but she didn't pick up her cell phone, and nobody was answering at Sam's house, where she was supposed to be. So I tried calling my brother, who ALSO didn't pick up. What the hell. Why do people have cell phones if they aren't going to answer them!? Rargh...

Anyway, by now I've been sitting in a car for ten minutes, trying to figure out what to do, and I see a cop driving around the parking lot. He's not really doing anything special it seems, so I don't think he was brought around to see what was the deal with the car who's alarm is going off (thank goodness). So, I get out of the car to ask him if he could help me. The fucking alarm, which by now I'm convinced is possessed by the devil, GOES OFF AGAIN. WHAT THE FUCK. So, I ask the officer nicely if he'd help me with my car, and so he says sure and comes around to see what he can do. I explain what happened, he's nice, and I give him the keys. He goes to open the door, which is unlocked, and the alarm goes off. Again. He tries the ignition while the alarm is going off, doesn't get the car to start or the alarm to stop, fiddles with stuff like I did, and the alarm stops. He tries the ignition again. The alarm, that goddamn devil alarm, goes off yet again. Finally, after more fiddling around, the officer gets it to turn off and gets the engine going. I thank him, he goes, and then I drive home, relieved that I can finally get on my way home.

Moral of the story today, kids: don't take a car with the spare key, unless you want to find a friendly officer to bail you out after everyone else in your family decides to leave you hanging.
