What am I supposed to do just sit here and not fall in love with you

I will say this, of all the storylines I'm looking forward to this season, I'm really looking forward to how Yang's recovery from losing her arm will go. I trust RT, I honestly do, and I'm really hoping that trust won't be misplaced ( Read more... )

Fandom is sometimes weird about the "If this doesn't happen instantly, it doesn't happen it at all."

She hasn't even been in the season yet!

What, are you going to assume the creator has plans and character arcs, and not attribute the worst intent to them? What are you even doing on Tumblr with that kind of thinking?

The worst thing is that we know Monty planned like nine volumes ahead before he'd even nailed down volume 1, and that Burnie had to tell him repeatedly to slow down on the story until they knew they were gonna get past volume 1.

Like, Monty planned nine volumes of story and left all of that with Kerry and Miles before he passed; it's not like they're doing one season at a time and making it up as they go along. They know when they're gonna get to stuff and they know where the best place to introduce something into the story is, because they know more of the story than we do. So people who whine and cry and whinge and moan because they haven't got what they want yet- we were promised queer characters from the beginning, but we were also told from the beginning we'd have to wait because that romance is a really important part of the story. But people are angry that we haven't been given them yet.

It's like picking up Sorcerer's Stone and being mad that Harry's not at Hogwarts till like. Chapter 1o. You know?

Ugh, yes. Or walking out of Brokeback Mountain half an hour in because you were promised queer characters and all that's happening is two guys riding around with some sheep.

"This is supposed to be a gay romance! Why aren't they smooching yet!"

"Not writing queer characters instantly jumping into bed so the audience can watch is queerbaiting!"

"Also, admitting that writing romance is a weak area in your writing and saying you want to get better before writing something so important to us is implying you don't think queer people are natural!"

(Literal thing I saw. Miles: I think y'all have noticed by now that I'm bad at writing romance, so I need to fix that before I write another couple because I want the queer couple to feel less forced than the het love triangle that y'all still haven't stopped bitching about since it happened. Fandom: Miles thinks queer relationships are forced and not natural!)

((I'm paraphrasing, Miles is always really sweet to the fandom. Honestly they don't deserve them.))

...are they fishing for things to get upset about?

Honestly? They are. The Miles Hate Train and the Jaune Hate Train (related; Miles voices Jaune and is head of the writing department at RT, so has influence on Jaune's characterization) will literally pick apart everything he does every second he's on screen for reasons to complain.

Last volume they were picking apart his response to Pyrrha's arc before he'd even been brought into it.

Yeah, if you're motivated to find reasons to dislike something, you can absolutely find ways to declare anything Problematic. (Especially if you ignore context.)
