I don't have anything planned for this entry, like I usually do. I don't have anything witty to say, or a funny line I heard and remembered. I don't have any spectacular news that no one has heard, nor do I have any deep dark secrets to reveal. So everything that follows is completely unplanned, unparalleled, and from the heart.
What is the purpose of life? Some people might laugh. I probably would too, were I not in this extremely philosophical mood. But truely, have you ever thouht about it? Have you ever wondered what makes us so lucky, to live on this planet that supports our every need, that allows us to live comfortably? Who are we to live in this privelaged place we call home? We are no more than an inferior speck of dust, in the grand scheme of things. What can we do that will influence the course of time? Probably nothing. But what we can do is be a tremendous influence on the world. One life may not seem to mean much in the big picture, but that one life might be what is holding the entire world together. Each loose thread could unravel the entire tapestry. Everything you do has an indirect effect on every other person on this earth. Everything you do and say will be remembered by someone. Every time you smile, you save someone from suicide. Every morning when you wake up, you give someone another reason to breathe. Someone out there follows your every move with a broken smile, and a broken heart, waiting for the day you remember their name. Who knows? Maybe the day that someone remembers to wave, or smile, or even look the right way, maybe that day, that very day, could be the day a lonely soul walked to school a little heavier, with the weight of a bomb strapped around them. Maybe that day, they go home thinking, maybe there is a reason. Maybe i can be noticed. Maybe I will be noticed. Maybe today I'll make a difference in someone else's life. Who can possible tell? How can you see a broken soul on the outside? You can't, or there would be a lot more people living in a sleepy town thats home to a high school called Columbine, that could be like ours. But they know. They know what it is to be blind to another's pain till they force it on you, and make you recognize it. Is that the only way to make people hear you? No. Is it the best way? God, i hope not. If our eyes and ears work the way there supposed to, this would never happen. If we listened, truly listened to what people don't say, our fellow human-beings, classmates, friends, parents, lovers, anything. Anyone. If we listened between the lines, maybe, possibly, lives would be saved.
But is there someone out there for everyone? Is there one person whose love will go unrequited? Is the system perfect, does everyone have a match made in heaven? Probably not. But, people can change and accomodate themselves, and make ends meet with each other. If the entire world would do that, not only in relationships of the heart, but in every relationship- political, social, anything. Think of the lives gained, and the friendships made, and every good thing that can come from it. That, that is the reason we are privelaged enough to live on this earth.
