Yes, I'm still alive here. Having daughter living at home since September has just taken its toll on my sanity and available free time. Escape has been achieved when necessary by burying myself in the vast amounts of excellent post series 3 Sherlock meta online - Moriarty, alive or dead? Mycroft, saint or sinner? John, straight or bi? Janine, ( Read more... )

Good to see you back on here - welcome back!

However, I DISAGREE (as you know!).

Sherlock is asexual. Steven and Mark have said, Benedict has said, and it is Canon. What more do you need?!

I agree about canon ACD Sherlock Holmes being pretty much asexual. However Mark and Steven love and reference many other versions besides ACD, including Mark's personal favourite as a young gay man growing up and discovering his sexuality, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes - a film which almost fully outs Holmes as gay and in love with Watson. I think it is Mark's mission to make this a reality for the 21st century, and Moffat is fully on board ( ... )

Further to the above, here is one article in which BC states that he believes Sherlock to be other than asexual http://www.benedictcumberbatch.co.uk/interviews/indiewire-sherlock-star-benedict-cumberbatch-on-his-sleuths-sexuality/... )

I totally agree with Sherlock's single-objected, mono- sexuality. He simply cannot want any other person except John, just the same way he has no other friends and hadn't had any before John stepped into his life. Other people are just world's furniture, primitive toys, uninteresting to play with, unneeded and unwanted. John is the only person to win a place in Sherlock's mind and heart. I seem to be ignorant somehow, but what is that 'Private Life of Sherlock Holmes' they're refering to?

TPLOSH is 1970 film made by Billy Wilder http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066249/ starring Robert Stephens (best friend of Jeremy Brett and husband of Maggie Smith) as Sherlock Holmes.

With a crazy plot involving a Russian ballet troupe and a visit to Scotland, it's primarily comedy. But it seriously suggests Holmes being in love with Watson. Also, Mark Gatiss modelled his version of Mycroft for the BBC on Christopher Lee's portrayal of Mycroft in the film.

Do let me know if you want to watch it but can't find online, because I can easily get cheap DVD for you. :-)
