Something old, something new
Current cheap movie acquisition brought about by dearth of decent telly will continue with Shadow of the Vampire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_the_Vampire, the supposed story of the making of the silent movie Nosferatu http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013442/, which is itself a version of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Here are the reasons why I chose it:
Vampire!
AR lookalike actor Ronan Vibert in the cast
DVD available from Amazon for next to nothing including delivery
Soundtrack includes the overture to Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde (no singing!)
Now I just have to wait a few days for it to be delivered, which in theory gives me time to watch Nosferatu in its entirely to better appreciate the modern homage… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcyzubFvBsA
But actually I’m not that keen on full-length silent movies, so I may just make do with this trailer for a quick impression. One can see straight away how well Willem Dafoe managed to achieve the look of the ancient vampire originally played by Max Schreck:
