WARNING:POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR DUNNETT READERS BELOW
Oh god you're doing better than I am! I was on book 3 and inadvertently found out how Pawn ended on an online thread (how did you deal with the ending of that?!) I love the way Dunnett writes - Kings her first book totally sucked me in ...but OMG the depression! Perhaps I should skip Pawn all together ...but then its central to the book and many people's favourites and apparently with the most powerful passages in like... the history of fiction... and just skip onto Castle...but from what you're saying its not sounding like a happier book?
Would love to PM you about Dunnett ...err if you want :-)
Just chiming in to say you cannot skip Pawn - you can't really skip any of them plot-wise, but PiF really is the central book. Even if I can't imagine reading it again at this point. XD; Even so each book contains hilarious scenes, so it's not doom and destruction the whole way.
(You can check my and rondaview's tags - we've been having a sort of informal Dunnett reading club for the past couple of months, very carefully spoiler marked, and would love to have you. XD)
What can I say, I'm a glutton for emotional punishment, which is partly why Dunnett (and that other colossal multi-book epic series whose first book's title starts with "Game of...", by George R R Martin) does it for me. DK and PiF are easily the best books in the series, so far, for its absurdly compelling levels of action-packed headfuckery. I am also very fond of Jerott Blyth and his Gorgeous McGorgeous face. RC is not happy AT ALL, and in fact I just read through a scene that made me D: D: D: ENDLESSLY, but errrr it's a few steps below child murder?
Re: PM-ing: oh, of course! I've been flailing around with a couple of flisters for the last few months, and would always welcome another fan. ;)
Yourself and Petronia are both friended...and I've gone back to where I left off on DK ...so I'll have you both to thank for getting me back to Dunnett...and I'll be knocking on your LJ doors for conselling afterwards :D
When Laurent is all: the giant animal Damainos is mine now! I am Laurent blonde and beautiful, I may be a man and he usually goes for women but you only have icky peasant brown hair!
The sparkles and rainbows are blinding me! I don't know what is going to happen!
