That is so weird. Mainly because from what I have heard American public transport generally sucks. I don't think i have heard or seen one person promote it. I can't imagine anyone 'celebrating' it.

That depends entirely on what city you're in. St. Louis's public transportation is pretty good or at least it was, it lost funding this year so who knows what will happen now.

In some cities it's abysmal.

But others it's great. (I found DC and Atlanta's systems very useful and intuitive.)

And of course NYC is probably 2nd only to London for public transport.
