Unpacking

There is something so inexpressibly delightful about unpacking books, taking them from their boxes and looking at them anew as I find a spot for every one upon my shelf.

The shipping company delivered the bulk of my things today and I finally have time to sit down and sort them out, not an overwhelming task as there are only about fifteen boxes.  I kind of like organizing everything else (being so happy it has arrived and I can stop scrounging for dinner, etc.) but I love, absolutely love, unpacking my books.  I only shipped one box of novels and fluff - I had to be stern with myself because I had a six hundred pound weight limit - but I got to ship all of my textbooks because they had their own special weight allowance as 'professional gear.'

I know I am a big geek to enjoy unpacking titles such as 'Probability and Random Processes for Electrical Engineering' and, even better, 'Fourier Optics' but I do.  Indeed, I have been struck again with the desire to go back and get my PhD in Electro-Optics.  I know!  Absolute GEEK alert!  And I'm not even that brilliant of an engineer, but I do so love studying the subject, it is really, really interesting, and maybe if I can't do at least someday I can teach.  It would be kind of cool.  I may well be destined for perpetual study.  Oh, dear.

But my books are on the shelf, so now this is home.
