In Which I Am In Intense Pain

Apr 20, 2005 20:03

On Monday evening, my wisdom tooth started to give me some pain. I had an idea I should've had it out long ago, but I haven't got insurance. So I figured I'd tough it out, as I had before, and eventually the pain would go away.

It didn't. So I decided that smoking some pot might help to alleviate the discomfort. WRONG. All the pot did was cause me to fixate on the pain, to really PROBE and EXPLORE it, until by the end of the evening I was investigating hitherto unexplored realms of excruciating agony. Also, the right side of my face had swelled up to grotesque proportions, causing me to look like a more sinister version of the kid in 'Mask', or an anemic Popeye.

So I got an appointment for Wednesday (today) and saw the dentist. Sure enough, that tooth has to come out. But I got the day off from work and a prescription for vicodin! Which I took. Which I am enjoying now. So I've exchanged INTENSE PHYSICAL PAIN for a beautiful serenity. I am practically floating, suffused with a warm glow that is impossible to attain without the miracle of modern prescription drugs.

Also: I would like to extend my thanks to the Catholic Church for electing one of my own people as Pope. May he usher in a new reign of superstition and religious bigotry, so as to keep things interesting. Hallelujah!
