conversation with man on plane

Jan 26, 2006 12:21

Man: Seems like were having a very smooth flight today.

Me: Yeah, too bad it's cloudy though bc I love looking out the window. It's like a huge living map.

Man: Yeah, it's somethin' else.

Me: It really puts into persepective the fact that people are just everywhere. There is really no place untouched by man. Even while flying over vast empty spaces out west I can pick out roads, buildings, farms, strip mines and man-made ponds.

Man: Oh yes. We'll I'll tell you something interesting. My friend did a calculation - and I know it's correct bc I saw the figures myself - that if you take the whole population of the United States and give each individual person a 10 by 30 area. Now that's 10 feet by 30 feet, the size of your average trailer see? If you take everyone in America you can fit ALL of them into the state of Washington. ALL of them.

Me: (Looks at him bedazzled.)

Him: I know it's hard to believe but, really, ALL of them. Into that one little state. Now thats something to think about next time someone wants to talk to you about overpopulation. We got loads of space. Those people don't know what there talking about.

I love flying.
