Adventures at Estrella part 1

Mar 04, 2006 22:09

At long last, stories of debauchery, drinking and fighting! And this war was definitely far better than last year's despite the massive amount of dust and crap that entered my lungs. Nothing like being sick after war and blowing out black snot for days on end. Nonetheless, it was a fabulous war and I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Wednesday- I got out of student teaching early and rushed home to pack up dad's car. We packed that bad boy up alright, up the the roof and all. It's amazing how much crap Jen and I have accumulated over the past couple of years just to live comfortably at SCA events. Anyway, Jen did get home a wee bit earlier than expected but we didn't hit the road until 7:30 because we didn't want to be stuck in hellacious traffic. We finally got on site around 8:30ish and tracked down Rachel to find our camping spot. We found out that we weren't camping near each other afterall. We were suppose to be camped in the same area because of the Grand Alliance of pirate ships and Frog Whip. But, Frog Whip decided to camp in their baronial lands at the last minute. Jen and I were supposed to be camped in the Golden Peacock but we got set up next to Frog Whip instead.

Things kinda got messed up. I was bummed that we weren't going to be near each other. We like camping next to each other because we're good friends and we partake in certain rituals throughout SCA camping events. Things like, singing obnoxious wake up songs in the morning to wake each other up, recalling last night's debauchery over breakfast, playing pranks on each other, getting ready for the parties and hurling insults at each other across camp. You know, special moments. Unfortunately, the special moments weren't as common this war. So, Jen,Tara and I were separated from Rachel for this war. After spending an ample amount of time getting our tents up and settled, Jen and I walked over to see where Rachel was camped. Jen and I didn't wander around to party at all because we were beat and decided to hit the hay. I thought I would do some wandering on my own but it was 1:30 and I was using whatever back up adrenaline I had to get us set up settled. So, not exactly an exciting first night of war. I didn't even get dressed like I normally do! I was supposed to track down Greta to say hello but I was too tired to even do that.

Thursday- I wake up flat on my back due to my double thick air mattress leaking overnight. My back was sore and stiff so I skipped out on the Ladies Treasure Chest tourney. Again. Next year, I will be entering! Jen and I decide to get breakfast on merchant's row. Screw heating up the breakfast burritos that we had prepared and froze a couple of days before. We also decided to forgo getting dressed and just walk to merchant's in our PJ's. After breakfast, we took a walk around site in our PJ's to look for friends' households. I had a silly notion to check up on my Aten Thugs (St. Vladimir rapier fighters who were accused of hitting too hard at Great Western)over at House Inverted. Some of them were there, sitting in camp about to eat breakfast. And this is when I met Carissa's Mom. Yes, the mother of the young lass that I'm currently seeing. I didn't know that I would be meeting her so soon. No time to be nervous! I just had to try to be cool and collected. My brain was screaming at me, "Just be funny! People love humor!" Carissa was still in Flagstaff taking an exam so she wasn't on site yet and here I was meeting her mom without her. Her mom introduced herself, was about to shake my hand but decided to give me a hug instead. I thought to myself "hey, this is a good start." I was feeling pretty confident and optimistic about our first meeting, even though I was in my PJ's. Ah yes, I'm such the snappy dresser. Anyway, we chatted, had some laughs and then we continued our PJ walk. We stopped by Keg's End to say hello and I saw my Katana! Always good to see her. Then we headed back to camp.

I finally get dressed and was about to head to Merchant's row when I bumped into Mena. Oh yeah, I was supposed to find her immediately and get fitted for my Courtesan outfit for Saturday night! Silly me! So, I followed Mena back to her camp and got to see my dress all completed for the very first time. It was stunning. Mena did an amazing job! The finished product looked gorgeous and she even beaded the straps with little white pearls. I tried on the dress and got my breasts heaved up inside the corset to test it out. It was amazingly comfortable and I was able to breathe. Woohoo, I'll have no problem drinking too! This is when I started to get excited about Saturday night's Challenge.

Oh yes, the Challenge! Greta had challenged me some months ago to wear a dress at Estrella. Not just any dress, a courtesan's dress. I wasn't going to back down from this challenge so I accepted. But, in return, I challenged her to dress up as man. Ah yes, adventures in cross dressing yet again! She had to be a gentleman pirate and be my consort for the evening's festivities. I would be on her arm and I would have her parade me around to various parties for all to see. Demanding aren't I? We even went as far as to create Italian personas. I was to be Isabetta,a courtesan of Venezia and she was to be Niccolo, a successful pirate captain. After all, we just weren't going to be able to be ourselves so why not? Greta even had 'lessons' on how to be a good courtesan planned for me to expand my 'education'. After all, she was my favorite client and provided the funds. ;) So, I asked dearest Mena if she could help me with a courtesan's outfit back in November. Mena lit up like a Christmas tree when I asked her to do this for me. She was more excited about doing this project than I was. It's that whole Mouse in a dress thing, I swear.

So, after a couple of hours of adjustments, some stitching and a whole lot of laughs, Mena sends me on my way with my finished dress. I had a good time just sitting down and chatting with her as she fixed my dress. She's such a wonderful person, so sweet. I dropped off my dress and once again heading off to look for more people that I had to talk to. Oh yeah, I had to find Greta to get details about Saturday night! I finally found Drafn and lo and behold I bumped into Greta and Wolfie on their way back from Merchant's row. Good timing. I hung out and chatted for awhile. I told Greta that I had just been fitted for my dress and she showed me one piece of her outfit, her hat. What a tease. Anyway, I had to go and Greta gave me this really warm and sweet hug before leaving. She just held me for awhile and it brought a big smile to my face. It was a very familar hug and it reminded me of the first time she hugged me at Potrero and most of the hugs from then on. A good, strong hug with a lot of love behind it. You see, we didn't speak much to each other for about a month and a half. I'll explain in a later post. But, it just felt good hugging her again and it made me happy. I told her that I would try to stop by to play a game of Scrabble with her later on.

Big mistake because I had to attend a Captain's meeting, find the Panteri Sisterhood for our date night and at some point spend some time with Carissa. Yeah, too many things to do in one night, stupid me. I did attend the captain's meeting after dinner with Rachel and the rest of our crew. I thought that Carissa may be on site by now and decided to go meet up with her since I never did find the Panteri camp for date night. We'll try it again another time. I headed over to Inverted to find her. We picked up some more Inverted people and headed over to Keg's End for the Whiskey tasting party. And there was Sean South, Brighid, Katana, Random, the newly married Brendan and the whole gang. I love walking in to Keg's End, it always feels like home to me. We bopped all over the place and I introduced Carissa to a batch of Keg's Enders. Occasionally, I would get the "So, are you two together?" every now and then from certain people. We listened to Yonaton sing a song about dysfunctional barnyard animals which was hilarious. It was also at Keg's End where Carissa turns into a cheap date after only a couple of tankards of pear cider. At some point of the night, we kinda stepped back from the crowd and started kissing each other.

Yeah, not exactly discreet but oh well. Every now and then we would be brought back into coversations and then kiss some more. This went on for awhile and I was one happy little Mouse. I was grinning from ear to ear. I really didn't care who was noticing at this point. We decided to bop around some more and bumped into Scott Wilson of Darkwood Armory and Patrick. Only Scott was dressed up as Giuseppe sporting a long dark haired wig. Giuseppe was having fun flirting with two women at once, me and Carissa. I have to admit, he's a lot of fun. I had a few flirtactious run ins with Giuseppe at this past Pennsic. Much fun and laughs was had by all. Scott is such a hoot!

I shall continue to write more soon...time for bed. ;)
