This weekend was a failure.
Nick and I missed LTJ because it was sold out, so we ended up drinking at his house while he played Manhunt(yes, he really needs a new system).
Jen and I ended up getting the $70 passes at Origins, not realizing that all the rooms were closed off by the time we arrived Friday evening, so we wasted $70 between us. We couldn't convince our roommates DJ, Kenta, and Tom to go with us to the bar, so Chris, Jen, and I ended up at the Columbus Brewing Company, which is nice, but not really a bar atmosphere. My roommates were so opposed to fun it seemed that when Chris called them up and stated that we had picked up a few girls at the bar and they wanted to come back to the hotel room and drink with us, they replied with "we have come concerns about our sleep schedule."
WHO SAYS THAT???
They stayed up till about 4:30 anyway, and I slept terribly because I was in a hotel room.
I had to scramble to get cards for my deck together Saturday morning since the dealer room didn't open until the time the PTQ started(thanks Origins), and went an awful 3-2 with Wafo-Tapa's Wild Pair build.
I played some guy who GAVE me cards in round1 (Jim maybe?). He was playing Slivers as well, and there were so many card interactions we created numerous illegal game states, but since I knew I was going to win eventually, I did not call a judge most of the time, even when it would benefit me. I did win after almost 50 minutes. I suppose it was a good thing that I got some room for error, since that was the first serious game I played with the deck.
Round 2 I faced mono black with MAIN DECK Plague Sliver, which normally wouldn't be a problem except that I stumbled develpoing my board or hit land clumps at bad times. A short game 1 followed by a LONG game 2 left us little time for Game 3, where I made an awful play with time running out and me focusing on winning too much. Basically I walked into getting my whole team Wrathed while saving the guy he had on his side of the board. Even after that terrible play, I was in command of the game until I drew five irrelevant cards of the top to lose. The guy lost his next two rounds of course.
Round 3 I played someone who had no idea what I was doing, but was playing a deck I feared: Shifter. I won game 1 easily after I tapped a bunch of Relics and Slivers to Take Possession his only creature(Spectral Force) and play Telekintetic Sliver with four other Slivers on board. Game 2 went pretty much to time AGAIN(It's the one thing I REALLY dislike about playing this deck), with us fighting over a Factory in a Possession war, which I lost, but it didn't matter since I was Wild Pairing like mad.
Round 4 of course I was paired against one of the few mirrors I could get, and also a friend staying in the same room, Chris. We had talked about how ridiculous the mirror would be, and I decided to simply bet on not playing it, while he added one Scourge of Kher Ridges to his board since it's such a huge beating in this match(I'm not sure how effective it ended up being, but I can assure you that whoever wins the Possession war will win the game with it). After talking about drawing or rolling a die(which by the way, is illegal to do, and we were told so by this "girl" named MATT sitting next to us), we decided to both mulligan to three and play, just to make sure there was a winner, since SOMEONE would probably get lucky and develop their mana faster and win in only about 25 or so minutes. I was luckier and won game 1. We sided, and joked about the SCOURGE that was coming to kill me, but as I thought all along, the monster game 2 didn't have enough time to finish, and the game ended with Chris in the lead, but losing the match anyway due to time.
Round 5 I played some bad reanimator deck. I mulled twice into a two lander with Relic and a bunch of gas(provided a third mana), and it didn't come either time. Nice way to end.
the only good thing to come out of that PTQ was that I found I more or less enjoy playing this deck, so unless the meta changes, I don't have to think too much about Block, so I can focus mostly on Nats Standard.
Sorry this turned into a report more than a post, but I had to get that off my chest. It really irritated me that I didn't do better.
