World Cup Report

The fact that France, having cheated their way into the Finals, could not once they were there even be bothered trying to play anything remotely like the football we know they are capable of does rankle somewhat. However, it is tempered with the knowledge that, having been not only beaten but veering dangerously close to having been humiliated by South Africa, they are now on their way home a beaten, dejected and broken side.

There were so many things wrong with the French team this year (indeed, for the past couple of years probably), and the reports on 5-Live that Raymond Domenech apparently refused to shake hands with Carlos Parreira are just indicative of one of them. In their matches against South Africa, Uruguay and Mexico, the French team played as if they knew they didn't deserve to be there.

Whatever the internal arguments, whoever the French FA pin the "blame" on, it's clear that France's World Cup has been a disaster from start to finish, and one which the national team will still be healing from come Euro 2012.
