Not quite a call for knowledge, more a general fish around for - well, not advice as such, more people's impressions. After being dropped at the last minute by the seller of the house I *was* going to buy, I have been looking all round for somewhere to move into, and have narrowed down the search options for one of four. Number 2. Cos it's big and it's handy and you could afford to get some of the work done right away. Thinking long term, tis far better to move into somewhere close to what you need to be close to and do a bit of work in it than move to somewhere that needs no work but you'll forever curse being far away from train station etc.
And, with the balcony and the door to the roof, you don't NEED the garden that number three would cost you so much more to get!

If we have another winter like last year's, I wouldn't want to be sans heating. I also tend to think it's better to move into somewhere a bit bigger than what you currently need, as it means you're less likely to have to start thinking about moving again in 2 or 3 years. And I just get the sense that, from your descriptions, you possibly have a bit of a soft spot for number 2 yourself?!

Edit: Sorry, it is not immediately obvious from all this that I voted for number 2 also!

I agree with everyone on 2. Location is everything, and something closer-in will be easier to sell should the time comes.

Congratulations on your impending mortgage! :)
