i love this country. it's nice. it's fucking nice.the trouble is, we used to be great. we used to be intelligent but in the last three decades all intelligence has been flushed wholeheartedly out of our system until the only people with any REAL culture, intelligents and decency are the elderly who are ignored by their ingrateful children and grandchildren and slung in a care home to potter about and be bored out of their minds...
ok. maybe i'm taking this a tad too seriously, there is probably still hope but i just checked the BBC website and i came across this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7757262.stmthere are so many things wrong with this article i want to personally go around and punch almost everyone who voted in this poll.
for those of you that have the immense pleasure of barely knowing me you need to know this about me to understand why i care. i adore comedy. it is my drug. it oft gives me motivation and i have an encyclopedic knowledge of some comedians that i happen to like. the trouble is, peter kay is average at best. but he is warm and friendly so people like him. he doesn;t use witty wordplay. he isn't even SLIGHTLY intelligent and were he around twenty or thirty years ago he would be, at best, working at the end of the pier on seaside resorts
i will now deconstruct the list. as i believe i am utterly right on this because, lets face it, being a man i care wayy too much about being correct.
UK'S FAVOURITE COMEDIANS
1. Peter Kay- as i have said before talentless o the extreme
2. Lee Evans - ALL he has is energy and he is a godawful joke-stealer.
3. Alan Carr -just no. DEAR GOD no. he may be ok on stage but he is void of wit. he can no come up with something witty on the spot
4. Catherine Tate - the hate i carry for this woman is unbelievable. she made nine sketches then just repeated them entirely for three fucking series' and the british public fell for it. i wouldnt mind but the humour is puerile and charmless
5. Dawn French ok. she is not so bad but there clearly are better people than her. the upper section of the list is what has most annoyed me
6. Rowan Atkinson- he was brilliant. fantastic even. but he has done roughly nothing of merit in the past 10 years or so which is unfortunate
7. Al Murray again with the catherine tate-esque catchphrases. but at least he HAS wit
8. Jack Dee- ok these last three are understandable as they are all cerebral and good comedians that deserve a place high up this list
9. Eddie Izzard
10. Frankie Boyle
this isn't what annoyed me most. what annoyed me most is the next list
UK'S LEAST FAVOURITE COMEDIANS
1. Jo Brand literally the best (possibly only good) female stand up of the moment. previously the best was linda smith but she sadly died. brand has a wit and self depricating style that i adore
2. Jonathan Ross-fair enough, he isn't REALLY a comedian. but his show isnt that bad and he is just on here cos of the andrew sachs incident
3. Victoria Wood- ok. i hate victoria wood. so the public isnt always wrong. but nevertheless she is far better than tate or alan carr or lee evans
4. Ricky Gervais- very annoying man but his humour is so strong i often look past that. i don't get how he sells out HUGE theaters and still has this poll vote AGAINST him
5. Harry Hill- ok. he is a bit irritating and clearly meant to be a kids tv presenter but still... no wait. he is impossible to defend
6. Jimmy Carr HOLD THE PHONE!?!?!!! jimmy carr!? he is brilliant. more jokes than most standups have in three shows he packs into one and if you ever meet him he is a genuinely nice guy.
7. Paul Merton- WHAT THE FUCK!? paul merton is my favourite comedian still alive. he regularly has the antion in hysterics on "have i got news for you" he is the single most surreal comedian still out there (if you think the mighty boosh is odd check out paul merton: the series. he blows that out fo the water with a fraction of the budget and is hilarious about it) give this man an OBE or knighthood
8. Russell Brand-ok. fair enough, i hate him. but he still doesnt deserve to be here. but i am really mad about these last two national treasure:
9. Spike Milligan this man IS british comedy. without him none of the above people would have started. or their shows would be VERY different. master of the surreal, a truely great man, a war hero, he launched peter sellers' career and inspired millions of children to read. quite literally this man WAS british comedy and he never fails to amuse me. EVER
10. Alan Bennett alan bennett is a national treasure. his books have entertained many. his live shows are wonderful and his work in the sixties revue ' eyond the fringe' is unequaled. he is a great man and a damn sight better then peter- fucking- kay
sorry about this. i needed to vent and you don't NEED to read this. i just get very passionate about comedy and the fact apul merton and spike milligan were on the list makes my blood run cold.
love, life and peace
