Personal quarters, Day 45 | Closed to transwarp_beam

Oct 13, 2010 20:56

(retcon of this thread for enterpriserpg)So, all in all it seemed that while the Enterprise's first mission had been an absurd failure in so many different ways, the crew and the ship herself was slowly starting to work its way back together. Bruises and cuts in both skin and metal were slowly closing over, and while some rifts - like the one between him and ( Read more... )

It had been coming up on the end of his shift when the comm had come down; it was on his way back to his quarters anyway, and he was never one to say no to freely offered alcohol, so he'd wrapped up the report he'd been working on and headed on up. Or that was the plan anyway. He might have been sidetracked by questions from assorted junior engineers on his way past. But it was certainly no more than half an hour later that he arrived at his captain's door.

He hummed to himself absently as he hit the door chime and rocked back on his heels, eyeing the ceiling distractedly as he waited for the door to be answered. Hmm. Was it just him or was it a little chilly?

Jim looked up from the PADDs he'd been doing his best to study as the door chimed, telling the computer to let the chief Engineer in.

"Well, if it's not my very favoritest crew member at this very moment," He called out, coming out from the slight burrow of blankets he'd made for himself and stood, walking over toward the engineer, hands sinking deep into the pockets of his civvies.

"Bloody hell," he said, taking an automatic step back as a wave of cold spilled from the door. He hunched a little deeper into his overalls and stepped into the room, squinting suspiciously at his captain. "What'd y'do?"

His glare could have probably stripped paint, if it weren't for the fact that he was so damn cold. "I didn't do anything. I came back from the mess and it was like this!" Well, "I might have poked around a bit after it was cold, but that was only after!"

"Aye, aye." He waved a hand vaguely and headed over to poke at the thermostat. "Oh aye, I see what's wrong. Just be five minutes t'fix." He reached inside and started fiddling with various components. "When'd it start actin' up?"

"Early tonight, I guess. Haven't been spending too much time in here, so it might have been earlier?" He scratched at the back of his head, because well, he knew he wasn't being that specific but he didn't really have that specific of an answer to give. "Have I mentioned you're my hero?"

"I could stand t'hear it a bit more often," Scotty replied with a grin. He swore under his breath and jerked his hand back as the circuit threw off sparks. Shaking his singed fingers, he finished the repair left-handed and fitted the cover back on. Warm air began blasting out of the vents. "There." It'll settle down once s'a bit warmer in here."

"I'll put it in the log to make sure and remember," Jim countered, arching an eyebrow (a skill he'd learned quite well from his first officer, thank you) as his wall was sending sparks into his quarters. And then, blessedly warm air was pouring out of his vents and he almost felt Scotty deserved a hug. Well, he'd go with the next best thing, "Have a drink to celebrate,"

"Now there's a plan I can get behind," he said with a grin. "What've y'got?"

"A bottle of something decent I've been hiding from Bones," He replied with a grin, wandering over the bedside table and digging in the drawers for a moment before he pulled out a nice bottle of ages whiskey - obviously something he'd picked up sometime they were on earth. "Think it'll suffice as a thank you?"

The look on his face may have indicated its acceptability as a proposal of marriage, never mind a thank you. Bloody hell it'd been too long since he'd last had really good whisky. "Think it'll do nicely."

"Grab a couple of glasses then," he instructed with a vague motion toward the drawers where they should be. He was able to keep the entire crew files and most things about his ship organized, but ask him to organize his quarters? Yeah, Jim was helpless. He twisted the top of the whiskey as Scotty returned and poured them both generous helpings. "Feel like we could use a damn drink,"

"I'll drink t'that," Scotty agreed fervently. After the last mission, there was no such thing as too much time spent in alcoholic oblivion. Between the disaster area engineering had been and...other things...he felt he owed it to himself. He held out one of the glasses for Kirk to take.

Jim took the glass with a thankful smile, and tipped it toward his chief engineer, "To getting away from that damn planet and all the shit it caused,"

"Amen," he said, clinking his glass off of Kirk's; "Slàinte mhath."

"Cheers," he replied, pulling back his glass to take a long swallow of the drink, grimacing slightly at the burn.
