I don't really know how it happened. If, on draft day all those years ago, you would have asked me if I thought it would happen twice, I would have doubted.
In Quebec, everyone knew Joe would be a star. He's that unique blend of god given ability and work ethic. Quiet by nature, but even as a runt kid, you'd look at him and you would just know he'd be something to watch.
Seeing him play every day for those years is something I treasure. He's not only a great friend, he's one hell of a human being who makes those around him better.
But now, I'm seeing it again and last night was more proof. You just look at the kid and know he's a freaking star. He's not so quiet by nature, and he can be a colossal doofus, but you look at Rick and know he's something to watch. Knowing at any moment, he could do something that leaves you shaking your head, you don't look away.
I'm not sure how, twice in my career, I've been lucky enough to play with guys like this. I'm just thankful I have.
