the life & times of jack harkness
biography
As a time-traveller, Jack's history isn't exactly chronological.
The boy who would take up the name Jack Harkness was born and raised in the 51st Century on the Boeshane Peninsular by his parents, along with his younger brother, Gray. The threat of invasion hung over his childhood, which was sweet and simple. Unfortunately, the aliens did invade, killing his brother and kidnapping Gray after Jack (who was supposed to be looking after his brother) stopped paying attention and let go of his hand. Jack looked for Gray for years, blaming himself for the loss, but was unable to find him. He joined up to fight against the race which tried to conquer his planet, and convinced his best friend to join, too, saying it would be an adventure. However his friend and he were caught and the friend was tortured to death in front of Jack, because he was weaker. These two incidents caused Jack great guilt in the coming years.
Jack signed up to the Time Agency, who used his poster-boy good looks to get more recruits; he was known as The Face of Boe. During this time he had many memorable escapades as he drank, murdered, and seduced both sexes -- along with his duties, of course, which are never specifically made clear but generally seem to involve travelling through time, seeing things most people shouldn't. At one point he got stuck in a week-long time loop with Captain John Hart for five years, in which they became partners "in every sense -- and more!" At another, he fell pregnant, an experience he planned never to repeat.
After at least ten years of escapades around the universe, the time agency erased two years of Jack's memory. Disliking the way the agency was run, he quit his job and became a travelling con artist on Earth, performing various scams which involved knowing the future; he took on the alias of Jack Harkness (he knew very little about the real man other than that he died in action in Januray 1941.) He served as volunteer in the 133rd Squadron of the Royal Air Force in World War II, and met a woman named Estelle Cole who he knew wanted to spend the rest of his life with him. Still with a working time travel device, he flitted back and forth around England in the forties and other places and times, at some point acquiring a Chula spacecraft, fitted for human use and able to turn invisible.
In 1941, he discovered Rose Tyler hanging from a barrage balloon and took her aboard his ship. Thinking she was a fellow Time Agent since she was obviously from the future, Jack tried to con her and the ninth doctor into buying a Chula ambulance craft that he knew would be destroyed by a stray bomb by the time they had paid for it. Jack got caught up in their attempt to investigate the Empty Child plague and ended up joining their team, accompanying them on their subsequent adventures.
Jack was exterminated trying to defend Sattelite 5 from Daleks when they launched their assault on Earth. He was resurrected by Rose Tyler who had taken the TARDIS's Time Vortex into herself, but was unable to rejoin the Doctor and Rose as they left. The revival had left him unable to die; "a fixed point in space and time". He aged very slowly, but could recover from any death given a few minutes time.
He used his Time Agency wrist strap to travel to Cardiff, aiming for the 21st Century where he thought he could track down Rose or the Doctor. Unfortunately he overshot and ended up in 1869, and the ability to time travel was burnt out, stranding him there. He hung around the city because he knew the TARDIS could refuel itself using the rift. Torchwood Cardiff established in 1885 to monitor the Cardiff space-time rift, and in 1899 they discovered Jack and his connection to the Doctor, and tortured him trying to find out what connection the two had -- and why Jack couldn't die. He was released on condition that he joined them. At first he hated that upon capturing an alien, Torchwood killed it, but he managed to quash his doubts.
For one hundred years, Jack stayed with Torchwood and kept an eye out for an incarnation of the Doctor that would know him. At some point he joined a travelling show and was billed as "The Man Who Couldn't Die" in order to investigate the Night Travellers. Jack also took some time off to sign up and fight in World War I. New Years Day 2000, Torchwood's then-leader Alex Hopkins shot the entire team and himself, leaving Jack as Tochwood 3's leader and only member. Torchwood 4 was lost, and Torchwood 1 was soon destroyed in the Battle of Canary Wharf, so Jack ran the organisation as he saw fit; he aimed to adhere to the ideals he thought the Doctor would have wanted, running it in his honour.
In 2005 Jack recruited Owen Harper as his medical man, whose wife was infected by an alien which gave her alzhiemers; Toshiko Sato as a tech genius, who was being held by the British government for stealing top secret plans, under threat of her mother being killed; and Suzie Costello, a nervous woman who became his second in command. After the Battle of Canary Wharf, he also took on Ianto Jones as a sort of butler -- after long weeks of convincing by Ianto himself, who had worked for Torchwood 1 and who needed a new place to look after his cyberman girlfriend.
On Christmas Day 2006 the Doctor had his hand chopped off; he regrew it, but Jack managed to recover the limb, which he kept in a portable hyperbaric chamber, using it as a way to alert him if the Doctor came near. Jack ran Torchwood with a harsh chain of command, a ruthlessness towards enemies and a lot of action, but also got to know each one of his teammates deeply and personally. The series Torchwood begins when Suzie, having obtained a glove which can bring people back to life, causes a series of events that culminate in her shooting Jack and herself. Police Constable Gwen Cooper joins the team as Suzie's replacement, and immediately becomes Jack's favourite; she brings an element of humanity to the team that the socially awkward others cannot, especially since she keeps her boyfriend and real life where the others have nothing but work, and Jack often lets her get away with unlikely things because of that.
After the team discovers and kills the cyber-woman Ianto is keeping in the basement, Jack takes an interest in him. When events Suzie orchestrated before her death call for her to be brought back and she tries to steal Gwen's life-force, almost killing her, Jack is forced to kill her again and she tells him there is something in the dark, coming for him. He starts up a physical relationship with Ianto. After many exciting adventures (faeries and ghosts and aliens oh my!) Jack and Toshiko are transported through a crack in the Cardiff space-time rift, back to 1941, where Jack meets (and briefly romances!) his namesake.
Returning to the present, Owen has meddled with the rift to get him and Tosh to return and it goes haywire; despite Jack's warnings the entire team betray him and open the rift without his permission, releasing a giant demon named Abaddon into the world. The monster's shadow sucked the very life from people; however when Jack confronted it his life force destroyed it and returned things to the way they had been before the rift irregularities. This action brought him the closest to death he had ever been, and though the rest of the Torchwood team grieves, Gwen stays by his body, believing that he will eventually return to life. She kisses him, and he does; however before Torchwood have time to celebrate their leader's return, Jack notices his home-made Doctor detector is reacting. He spots the TARDIS and runs after it, managing to grab hold as it leaves and abandoning his team without explanation. The TARDIS sees him as an anomaly in space-time and flies to the end of the universe to escape him, the year one hundred trillion. The Doctor (now the Tenth) and Martha Jones allow him to accompany them as they explore. The society here is crumbling and most of the galaxies have ended. Taken into something like a refugee camp for the last of humanity, they discover a scientist called Professor Yana, who is building a spaceship to take them all to Paradise. Jack helps to launch the ship by entering a chamber flooded with Stet radiation, which would kill a normal human, and fixing the power canisters. Unfortunately Yama turns out to be the Doctor's nemesis, the Master, who regains his memories of being a Time Lord and regenerates, then steals the TARDIS.
The Doctor has locked the TARDIS to only be able to travel between the end of the universe, and the point they had left the 21st Century; the Master is able to arrive 18 months before that point, and uses his extensive powers and knowledge to take control of a worldwide satellite network and implement himself as the Prime Minister of Britain. He reveals aliens to the world, which are really the last humans from the end of the universe, and they decimate the population before taking control of the world. The Doctor and Jack are caught and imprisoned; the Master turns the Doctor into a crippled old creature and forces him to do humiliating, servile things while he boasts of his triumph of the world; Jack he ties up and kills over and over again for a year until Martha Jones shows up to rescue them all. Jack escapes and destroys the Master's Paradox Machine, which sends everyone back a year. The Master chooses to die, leaving the Doctor the only one of his species again. Though they are both in love with the Doctor, Martha and Jack choose to leave him. Martha to return home, Jack to return to his team at Torchwood; after a year of thinking he has realised they are what's important.
The team, however, have been getting on all right without him. They are annoyed that he returns and tells them nothing, though they all agree that it's more interesting when he's around. As if to illustrate this, Captain John Hart, Jack's partner from the Time Agency, comes through the space-time rift. He claims to need to find and disable three alien radiation bombs placed in Cardiff, and when they split up to search for them he disables the team one by one. Unfortunately the device he constructs, which he thought would bring him riches, was designed by his ex-girlfriend to attach to whoever killed her. Jack manages to remove the explosives from Hart and rejects him for his despicable actions; Hart leaves, though the last thing he says before he disappears into time and space is that he knew where Gray was.
As the team continues to do their jobs, Jack begins to bond further with them, his year alone having given him deeper revelations into the feelings he has for his team; particularly Gwen Cooper (who is now engaged, to Jack's disappointment) and Ianto Jones (who Jack begins to date properly, and they are seen fooling around in the office a couple of times.) Jack invites Martha Jones to help them out with a few scientific cases. Unfortunately during a mission involving a pharmaceutical company, Owen is shot; Jack finds a twin to the Resurrection Glove and revives him. But Owen brings with him an extra-dimensional alien: Durac, the embodiment of death. This means that he remains a functioning, sentient dead body, even after Durac is destroyed.
John Hart returns and bombs a warehouse containing most of the members of the Torchwood team; they are rescued by Gwen and her boyfriend only to see John blow up Cardiff. Jack discovers John is being manipulated by Gray who has him molecularly bonded to an explosive device. He takes Jack to the past where Gray appears, vengefully forcing John to bury Jack in the land that will become Cardiff in AD 27. Gray, insane, has blamed Jack for the unspeakable tortures he underwent in his capture, and wants Jack to experience a similar never-ending pain. Stuck in a cycle of death and resurrection, Jack is discovered by Torchwood in 1901, who are confused as he has been on their team for a year. Jack explains his situation and forces them to cryopreserve him until the time where he was stolen by John Hart.
Jack awakes again to encounter Gray, forgiving him of his trespasses despite Gray's own unwillingness to absolve Jack. Jack chloroforms and cryopreserves Gray, refusing to kill him, but the damage has already been done, as Gray has been responsible for the deaths of Owen and Tosh. Jack and John part ways on better terms, with John travelling the world in the 21st century and Torchwood 3 reduced to Jack, Ianto and Gwen.
On a trip to Switzerland to deal with mysterious circumstances surrounding the Large Hadron Collider, Jack admits he isn't dealing well with the deaths of Tosh and Owen, but must stay strong for the remainder of his team. When Earth is moved across time and space by the Daleks, Jack steps up to the plate as a defender of the Earth, and goes to assist the Doctor as he destroys the Daleks from inside their central spaceship. Once again, he matyrs himself to save others, and is willing to blow up the entire ship and everyone on it to save the world. Fortunately that doesn't prove necessary, and the Doctor takes Jack, Mickey Smith, and Martha Jones back to Cardiff, where Jack is reunited with his worried team.
timeline
I made this in Paint to indicate, inaccurately, just how fucked Jack's chronology is. Home life, war, Time Agency, the Doctor, Torchwood, The Doctor again, Torchwood again, being buried alive for 2000 years. :Db
quotations
doctor who: boomtown
Jack: (about Rose and Mickey) Aw, look at these two. How come I never get any of that?
The Doctor: Buy me a drink first.
Jack: Such hard work.
The Doctor: But worth it.
doctor who: the bad wolf
Jack: Am I naked in front of millions of viewers?
Android: Absolutely.
Jack: Ladies, your viewing figures just went up.
Jack: Hold on, ladies. I don't want to have to shoot either one of you.
Android 1: But you're unarmed. You're naked!
Android 2: But that's a compact laser deluxe!
Android 1: Where were you hiding that?
Jack: You really don't wanna know.
Jack: Well ladies, the pleasure was all mine. Which is the only thing that matters in the end.
Jack: Captain Jack Harkness.
Lynda: Lynda Moss.
Jack: Nice to meet you, Lynda Moss.
The Doctor: You mind flirting outside?
Jack: I was just saying hello.
The Doctor: For you that's flirting.
torchwood: everything changes
Jack: Contraceptives in the rain. I love this planet. Still at least I won't get pregnant. I'm not doing that again.
Gwen: So who is he?
Yvonne: American volunteer. Royal Air Force. 133rd Squadron. Except he disappeared. Vanished off the records, and presumed dead.
Gwen: When was that?
Yvonne: 1941. At the height of the Blitz. On the morning of january 21st, 1941, Captain Jack Harkness failed to report for duty. Never seen again until now.
Gwen: I'm getting tired of following you.
Jack: No you're not. And you never will.
Gwen: The thing is I just don't understand-
Jack: I'll tell you what I don't understand. You're going to rattle on with that "How can this be true?" kind of shtick. What's it going to take for you people. If you want evidence of aliens, how about that great big spaceship hovering over London on Christmas day? What about the battle of Canary Wharf. A Cyberman in every home.
Gwen: My boyfriend says it's like a sort of terrorism. They put drugs in the water supplies. Psychotropic drugs. Causing mass hallucinations.
Jack: Yeah well, your boyfriend is stupid.
Gwen: Oh, you've met him.
Gwen: So go on then. How the hell did you end up in Cardiff?
Jack: This is Torchwood Three. Torchwood One was London-destroyed in the battle. Torchwood Two is an office in Glasgow. A very strange man. Torchwood Three, Cardiff. Torchwood Four has kinda gone missing but we'll find it one day.
Gwen: So you just fancied Cardiff?
Jack: There's a rift in space and time running right through the city.
Jack: Don't be so dramatic. It's an amnesia pill. My own recipe. With a touch of denial and a dash of retcon. Wake up tomorrow morning, you'll have forgot everything about Torchwood. Worse still, you'll have forgotten me. Which is kind of tragic.
torchwood: day one
Jack: Tosh was right, though. She went for the ex-boyfriend. Lucky she's young. Work your way through my back catalog, we'll be here 'til the sun explodes.
torchwood: the ghost machine
Jack: You pushed this button and that caused this apparition moment?
Gwen: Yeah. (Jack starts fiddling with the device.) Jack, no!
Jack: (scoffs, guiltily) As if.
Jack: Gorgeous nanotechnology. Makes NASA look like Toys 'r' Us.
Jack: Human emotion is energy. You can't always see it or hear it, but you can feel it. Ever had deja vu? Felt someone walk over your grave? ever felt someone behind you in an empty room? Well there was. There always is.
Gwen: A ghost.
Gwen: I'm sorry, it's just- I don't even kill spiders in the bath.
Jack: Nor do I. Not with a gun.
Jack: The problem with seeing the future is you can't just sit and look at it. You've got to try and change things.
torchwood: cyberwoman
Gwen: You would never have shot him, not really.
Jack: Wouldn't I?
Gwen: Would you have shot me if I'd gone and stand by him.
Jack: But you didn't.
Gwen: If I had though.
Jack: But you didn't.
Gwen: When she got ahold of you I thought, just for a moment, I thought maybe you could die after all.
Jack: Wanna know a secret? So did I. And just for a second there I felt so alive.
torchwood: greeks bearing gifts
Mary: You smell ... different. To them.
Jack: That's nothing. It's when you compare teeth with a British guy, that's when it's really scary.
Mary: What are you?
Jack: I don't know.
Jack: What do bosses do in situations like these? You know, regular bosses. Do I get to beat people?
Tosh: We've got rules for that!
Jack: (jokingly) Argh! Red tape!
torchwood: they keep killing suzie
Detective Swanson: At last, you must be Torchwood. My team bitch about you all the time.
Jack: And you are?
Detective Swanson: Detective Swanson.
Jack: I'm Captain Jack Harkness.
Detective Swanson: So I've heard. Tell me something, are you always this dressy for a murder investigation?
Jack: What, you rather me naked?
Detective Swanson: God help me, the stories are true.
Suzie: “Captain, my Captain." Do you want to know a secret? There's something moving in the dark and it's coming, Jack Harkness. It's coming for you.
Ianto: If you're interested I've still got that stopwatch.
Jack: So?
Ianto: Well. Think about it. Lots of things you can do with a stopwatch.
Jack: Oh yeah. I can think of a few.
Ianto: There's quite a list.
Jack: I'll send the others home early. See you in my office in ten.
Ianto: That's ten minutes. And counting.
torchwood: combat
Jack: (to Gwen) You promised to keep hold of your life; don't let it drift.
Jack: You know what they used these warehouses for during World War Two? Storing the bodies of dead GIs. (pause) Sometimes you can know too much history.
torchwood: end of days
Jack: You're a united front now? Toshiko. The poor girl who'll screw any passing alien that gives her a pendant. Owen. So strong he gets in a cage with a Weevil, desperate to be mauled. Ianto. Hiding a cyber-girlfriend in the basement. Your three comrades here pumped bullets into her, remember?
Gwen: I've got to get Rhys back.
Jack: Yeah, because you're so in love with Rhys that you spend half your time in Owen's bed.
Gwen: (belts him in the jaw) Fuck you!
Owen: We're relieving you of your command, Captain! We're opening that rift and getting back what we lost! (Jack tries to get up) Stay down!
Jack: You gonna be in charge, Owen? You've gotta have significantly bigger balls. (Owen shoots him in the forehead)
Gwen: Jack. What would have tempted you? What visions would have convinced you to open the rift?
Jack: ...The right kind of Doctor.
doctor who: utopia
Jack: Oh, don't tell him to put his gun down.
The Doctor: He's not my responsibility.
Jack: And I am? Ha, that makes a change.
The Doctor: What are you taking your clothes off for?
Jack: I'm going in.
The Doctor: From the looks of it, I'd say the stet radiation doesn't affect clothing, only flesh.
Jack: Well. I look good though. How long have you known?
The Doctor: Ever since I ran away from you. Good luck.
The Doctor: When did you realize it?
Jack: Earth. 1892. Got in a fight on Ellis Island. A man shot me through the heart. Then I woke up.
Jack: (on Rose) I went to her estate in the 90s. Just once or twice. Watched her growing up. Never said hello. Timelines and all that.
[d-does anyone else find this hilariously creepy?]
The Doctor: Do you want to die?
Jack: This one's a little stuck.
The Doctor: Jack.
Jack: I thought I did. I don't know. But this lot-you see them out here surviving. And that's fantastic!
The Doctor: You might be out there somewhere.
Jack: I could go meet myself.
The Doctor: Well. The only man you're ever going to be happy with.
Jack: This new regeneration, it's kinda cheeky!
doctor who: the sound of drums
The Doctor: You work for Torchwood?
Jack: I swear to you, it's different, it's changed. There's only a half dozen of us now.
The Doctor: Everything Torchwood did and you're part of it.
Jack: The old regime was destroyed at Canary Wharf. I rebuilt it, I changed it. And when I did that, I did it for you. In your honor.
The Doctor: It just shifts your perception a tiny little bit. Doesn't make us invisible, just unnoticed. I know what's it like: it's like when you fancy someone and they don't even know you exist. That's what it's like.
Jack (to Martha, seeing her downcast expression.) You too, huh?
Jack: What say I use the perception filter to walk up behind him and break his neck.
The Doctor: Now that sounds like Torchwood.
Jack: Still a good plan.
doctor who: last of the time-lords
Jack: Back to work.
The Doctor: I really don't mind, though. Come with me.
Jack: I've had plenty of time to think that past year-the year that never was-and I kept thinking about that team of mine. Like you said, Doctor: "responsibility".
The Doctor: Defending the Earth. Can't argue with that.
Jack: (as the Doctor disables his Time Agent wristband) Hey, I need that!
The Doctor: I can't have you walking around with a time traveling teleport. You could go anywhere. Twice! The second time to apologize.
Jack: And what about me? Can you fix that? Will I ever be able to die?
The Doctor: Nothing I can do. You're an impossible thing, Jack.
Jack: Been called that before.
torchwood: kiss kiss, bang bang
Owen: Where were you?
Jack: I found my doctor.
Owen: Did he fix you?
Jack: What's to fix? You don't mess with this level of perfection.
Hart: You put on weight.
Jack: You're losing your hair.
Hart: What are you wearing?
Jack: Captain Jack Harkness. Note the stripes.
Hart: Captain John Hart. Note the sarcasm.
Jack: Hey, I worked my way up through the ranks.
Hart: I bet the ranks were very grateful.
Jack: We go back.
Hart: Excuse me. We more than go back. We were partners.
Ianto: In what way?
Hart: In every way. And then some.
Jack: It was two weeks.
Hart: Except the two weeks was trapped in a time loop so we were together for five years. It was like having a wife.
Jack: You were the wife.
Hart: You were the wife.
Jack: No. You were the wife.
Hart: Oh, but I was a good wife~
torchwood: sleeper
PC Andy: No other reason I could think of for keeping sports equipment in the bedroom.
Jack: Oh, you should come by my house for a game of hockey some time.
Ianto: "Just us. In this room. For as long as it takes." Terrifying.
Jack: Really?
Ianto: Absolutely. Shivers down my spine.
Jack: You don't look scared.
Ianto: ...It passed.
Beth: Your bedside manner's rubbish.
Gwen: You should see his manners in bed. They're atrocious. Apparently. So I've heard.
Ianto: Oh, they are. I remember this one time-
Jack: Ahem.
torchwood: to the last man
Jack: This time tomorrow he'll be back in 1918.
Ianto: His own time. Would you go back to yours? If you could?
Jack: Why? Would you miss me?
Ianto: Yup.
Jack: I left home a long time ago. I don't know where I really belong. ...Maybe that doesn't matter anymore.
torchwood: meat
Gwen: Have you ever eaten alien meat?
Jack: Yeah.
Gwen: What was it like?
Jack: He seemed to enjoy it.
torchwood: adam
Jack: (to Ianto) I found your diary. And for the record? Measuring tapes never lie.
torchwood: reset
Jack: Come on Martha, be honest. You just came all this way to see me.
Martha: Still struggling to conquer your shyness, huh, Jack?
Jack: See, you did come all this way to see me. It's the jawline. Once seen, always yearned for.
Martha: So am I right in thinking that you and he...?
Ianto: We... dabble.
Martha: Yeah?
Ianto: Yeah.
Martha: So what's his dabbling like?
Ianto: Innovative.
Martha: Really?
Ianto: Bordering on the avant garde.
Martha: Wow.
Ianto: Oh yeah.
torchwood: dead man walking
Owen: You've read Proust?
Jack: Yeah. Well, no. We dated for awhile. He was really immature.
Owen: You know, none of us know whether to take you seriously when you say those things.
Jack: You've lived as long as I have, you don't make anymore up.
Tosh: Did he really beat death?
Jack: Well you can never really beat death, never escape it. It's always in the shadows waiting.
torchwood: from out of the rain
Tosh: I don't believe this, Jack. What were you doing there?
Owen: He's part of this freakshow.
Jack: Yeah. Some things never change.
Jack: Ianto, with me. I need your local knowledge.
Gwen: Oh! Is that what you're calling it these days?
torchwood: adrift
Gwen: I wouldn't have come in if I'd known-
Jack: Always room for one more. We could have used you an hour ago for naked hide-and-seek.
Ianto: He cheats. He always cheats.
torchwood: fragments
1,392 Deaths Earlier:
Jack: Ladies! Torso of steel, shillin' a feel! Any takers? Bar fight. Got a little out of control. Flesh wound. Oh, still not used to... these hangovers. Captain Jack Harkness. How long have you been there? (No response.) The silent type. Okay. I used to date a guy with no mouth. Surprisingly creative. (They assault him.) Listen, you only had to ask. Wanna get a room now?
Jack: What I said about getting a room I meant somewhere with linen! Time was, electrodes to the nipples meant the start of a good night!
Brun: (quoting Jack's conversations in bars) Hm. "The Doctor. He'll be able to fix me." "When the Doctor comes, it'll all be put right." "You wait 'til I see the Doctor. First I'm going to kiss him, then I'm going to kill him."
Torchwood Lady: We've been monitoring you. You've been killed 14 times in the last six months.
Jack: Feels like more than that.
NYE 1999
Alex: 21st Century, Jack. Everything's going to change. And we're not ready. (shoots himself)
5 Years Earlier
Tosh: Who are you?
Jack: Nobody. I don't exist. And for a man of my charisma that's quite an achievement.
21 months earlier:
Jack: Go back to London, find yourself another life. Keep stalking me, I'll wipe your memory.
Ianto: No, but the thing is-
Jack: Look, any conversation between us, no matter what the subject, is over. Finished. Done. Forever. I'm getting back behind the wheel of that car. If you're still standing in the road, I'm gonna drive through you.
Ianto: So you're not going to help me catch this pterodactyl then?
Jack: (at Myfanwy the pterodactyl) Come back with me. I've got somewhere nice and big where you can fly around.
Ianto: Okay, so you let a pterodactyl in and not me?
Jack: We need a guard dog.
Ianto: I can be that. And a receptionist.
Jack: Yeah, it's quite excitable.
Ianto: Must be your aftershave.
Jack: Never wear any.
Ianto: You smell like that naturally?
Jack: Fifty-first century pheremones. You people have no idea.
torchwood: exit wounds
Jack: This is a little extreme, don't you think?
John: Oh what? Suddenly you're anti-bondage?
Grey: The only strength I have is my hatred for you.
Jack: I didn't know. I didn't realize until it was too late.
Grey: I begrudge you everything. I wanna rip it all from you, to leave you screaming in the dark. I will never absolve you. All of it, it's your fault.
Jack: The end is where we start from.
