Writing Sample: First-Person Network Post
[A face appears on the video display, wearing a serious, authoritative expression that belies its youth. His chin is up, his face perfectly framed, and he looks directly into the camera when he speaks--clearly he's done this before.]
This is Captain James T. Kirk of the Federation Starship Enterprise. I respectfully request a meeting, whether via this communication network or in person, with a member of the government or of the Twelve Point Divinity, or their designated representative.
I've read the pamphlet that was helpfully provided when I arrived in this room. I'm grateful for the information but I have further questions about the circumstances of my abduction. And I would like to negotiate the terms of my return.
[A pause. His expression softens by just a couple of degrees.]
If there's someone on the other side of this door who would oblige me by opening it, I'd appreciate that.
