I've just been so reluctant to spend any time there because of the sleaze, shameless product endorsements, and from what I've heard from other people, "lol omg Prok is stupid Anshe sucks drama drama FIC drama and Snow Crash roooooolz!" I guess it's just always felt like a giant chat room to me. I've been waiting to find out what the real depth is from people who actually enjoy it. In Second Life, I really enjoy going to live music shows, book discussions, presentations and lectures, shopping (shameful! :D ), and playing games like Giant Snail Racing and Combat Cards, Acrophilia, trivia games, etc. There's also one social club I enjoy a lot where I attend rebroadcasts of old BBC comedy shows, book readings, some really great dj-ed dance nights (Blues, Lounge, Eclectic, World, etc on various nights), as well as live music events there.
I also work in SL, as evidenced by Peter's announcement post here. I have done marketing and promotions for many events, products, and organizations. Now I also manage large-scale development projects. As a side hobby, I design hand-painted clothing.
