Game Reviews for Professor Layton and the Unwound Future and Ghost Trick.
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
The third installment in the Professor Layton puzzle game series. Same gameplay as its predecessors: Wander around, solve puzzles, and progress though the story. Solving all the puzzles in this game allows you to unlock a special puzzle by using a code in the previous game. I love the storyline in this game, it plays out with similar outlines at the other two games (there is a big mystery that you think you know the answer to, but you end up figuring out there is a completely different explanation). Unfortunately the alternate "logical" explanation actually makes less sense than the fantastical explanation. But, it's a fun little game, so let's try not to think about it, shall we? I find this game to be the most tragic and heartfelt in the series, and you get to see another side of the Professor that you might have been dying to see. Love it.

Ghost Trick
A new puzzle-solving game. In this game, you start by finding out that the character you play as has died and need to solve the mystery of your death. Along the way you save the lives of other characters who have died by using your "Ghost Tricks." You rewind time to before the person's death, and possess objects so that the circumstances of the scene changes and the person doesn't end up dying. Between these "puzzles," you slowly learn about yourself and how you and the other characters are all connected to a bigger plot. The storyline is linear, there is only one way to solve each puzzle, and the point of view is a side-scroller. When you fail a puzzle, you can start back up from the beginning or middle of the puzzle, so there are no "game overs." The game is also slightly anti-climatic, non-believable, and predictable. But despite that, it is SUCH fun. I mean, what isn't predictable and unbelievable anymore? At this point, you can pretty much predict that almost any story is going to be predictable.
The best part of this game are the characters. They are quite quirky and all feel rather optimistic about death. "I died again, didn't I? Whoops!" One girl dies about... five or six times. Talk about your ultimate damsel in distress. She's pretty dead-set on throwing herself in the line of danger. Also, being a poltergeist is pretty cool.

I give games pretty high marks... because I don't usually end up finishing games I don't like. Just to be clear. :)
