I'd say such a thing is quite doable. Depending on how many are interested, I could see Fish and I each taking a vessel full of Mantids from point to point. We could race!

My wife says that if it's in the Caribbean seas, she is ALL FOR IT.

I think I'd be up for Maritime Mantid weekend more if I could get The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald out of my head.

Dude, AWESOME! The whole thing is awesome -- the fact that you did it, the trip itself, and even the way you told the story. I'm terribly impressed. Plus, it puts my own sailing adventure (from two years ago) to shame. Also, big, big props to Leems for going along with all this.

If you decide to sail out of the VI in the future, I am there, my friend. I may not be ASA certified, but I can probably remember enough to function as a deckhand.

Also, very nice assessment of monohulls vs. cats. My experience is limited enough that I'll just have to take your word for it, but it seems about right. That said...that Lavezzi is one gorgeous boat.

And heck, if we do it from the Florida panhandle, we're a mere 3 hours drive from the pissant little town in Alabama that I went to high school in.

Well, screw the VIs, then!

Perhaps I should have said "forget" the VIs, considering...

Hell, from there we could reach Tampico, Mexico. We could invade my in-laws compound. That would be a lot of fun.

What an excitement to participate in such a challenge!! Like Jane (Mom) and Marji venturing off to Alaska and parts unknown! Almost impossible to adequadetly share all the details explaining our days and experiences. Learning a new skill and obtaining the privileges of such an exciting way to spend the day. Might I ask, where will you be sailing this cadillac at the lake?? Surely, you will have to practice your new found skills on a regular routine! I've had great fun reading your journal entries and could imagine being on the deck with you all---just watching and enjoying the ride!! I'm impressed and Thank you Very Much for this adventure. Well, it's like I said: we'll start off by begging friends and cow-orkers for time on their boats this summer. I've looked at some sailboat listing for the area, and there are some bargains to be had, but that would involve replacing our old Saturn with a new car with towing capacity, so I'll be saving my nickels and dimes for a while.

I may look at joining a sailing club in the Cities, but I don't know whether it would be worthwhile, given that there are only so many nice weekends in the season, and I usually spend a lot of them at Mom & Dad's place. We'll see.
