Countdown #13 Summary

Jan 30, 2008 20:53

The Earth-51 saga ends here. This was a little disappointing because I thought it would have more of the Monarch vs. Supermanboy-Prime fight than it did. This issue starts with Monitor-51 watching the war unfold on his Earth and knowing that it will soon be all over.

We then cut over to the big fight. Prime vs. the Monarch. Both sides are giving as good as they get. First they tear up the Monarch's mobile headquarters and then take the fight into the city. Prime throws a piece of machinery at the Monarch and then uses his heat vision against him. The Monarch blasts the floor underneath Prime's feet sending him into the air. Knocking the Monarch out into the city, Prime declares that he believes the Monarch to be just a weak person in a suit. Monarch gives Prime a minor taste of his power which results in the city being nuked.

Seeing the explosion from a distance Donna Troy protects Ray Palmer from the explosion. Kyle arrives moments later with Batman-51 and Jason Todd/Red Robin. In a part of the city Donna sees a message telling them to go to Apokolips. Batman sees a group from the Monarch's army with a Joker amongst them. Batman snapped a little bit because he thought this Joker was the one he killed back from the dead. Not paying much attention his surroundings Batman gets the back of his head caved in by Superman-3. Kyle using his ring flings Superman-3 far away. Jason takes a piece of rubble and crushes the Joker's head with it. As for the other people it is unknown what happened to them. Monitor-51 also saw the message and sends our heroes to Apokolips. He stays behind to carry on his duty.

Supermanboy Prime survives the blast and was hurt by it. Monarch is taunting Prime calling him a boy and how the Guardian's power he absorbed is being used up and he is reverting to his normal self. Now this part gets a bit confusing because Prime tears off some of the Monarch's armor and it causes an explosion so big that it destroys the entire galaxy. How much armor did he tear off and why did it cause that big of an explosion? Earlier in this issue a city was destroyed when the Monarch unleashed some of his power. Was that because it was controlled explosion? I know that Prime tore off some of the Monarch's external armor but what about the armor he wears as Captain Atom. Was that also torn as well to cause a galaxy to be destroyed? Moments before the explosion all the Monitors fled except for 51. He stayed behind. After the explosion and the dust cleared he sees the only other survivor and that is a seedling.
