Woke up long ago and the sun is still not up. Exactly 7 days ago I was rushed to the hospital
having survived my second head on collision with a drunk driver. Yes, that is right, the second drunk driver to hit me head on.
The first time was back in 2004 while living in Florida. The other driver went into our lane to make a left turn right in front of us. A full size Chevy van versus a Mitsubishi Amigo, we lost.
This time it was a Suburban (his) versus Dakota (mine). The basic story is as so, I was heading for work at 4:50 in the morning. Did my usual morning stop for breakfast and coffee before getting on the highway. At around 5:15 I am getting to the point where the loop goes from running north/south to going east/west. I see a car in the north bound side flashing there high beams. I check, "yes my headlights are on", "speed is 65", "seat belt on", no worries about the cop. Then there is a truck on the east/north bound side also flashing there high beams. Then I see why, right in front of me I see headlights coming right at me. I swerve left into the median and next thing I know, my windshield is shattered and I am in severe pain. Unable to move without pain but my thoughts are clear. I don't believe I lost consciousness, I did not have that hazy feeling that I have had after my concussions. After being extracted from what was left of my truck and placed into the ambulance I am told that the other drive is being arrested for DWI.
Taken to the hospital, I spend about 10 hours in the ER and am released with a broken left knee and sprained left wrist, at least that is what I think it is. The hospital said there was nothing wrong with it, even though it was swollen almost twice the size of my right wrist, and the med clinic I went to on Friday said it was an infection. My hand feels more like it was sprained then an infection and definitely
worse than nothing wrong with it. Going to yet another doctor today to get my FMLA paperwork filled out and to schedule a follow up for my knee and hand.
All said and done, I'm going to be out of work for about two months, unfortunately these two months are also the two months I have to get my new house ready and moved in. Thanks a lot you drunk bastard.
