[Skip ahead to next para if my psychopharmacology doesn't interest you]
Well, went to the GP a while ago to get some sleeping pills cos I'd been strangely wired at night, from what I thought was work stress. My blood pressure was through the fucken roof. I normally have familial low blood pressure, but this was clinical hypertension - it would destroy my eyesite and kidneys eventually (interesting my musical hallucination from a couple weeks ago about "the last train out of sydney is gonna stab you in the kidney"). GP said to see my psychiatrist immediately. I presented him with my hypothesis with which he completely agreed (yes, I tend to have a weird relationship with my docs). Valproate gave me IBS. The carbamazepine I'd switched to instead fucks with the P450 enzyme in the liver, speeding the metabolism of some things and slowing others. It prolly slowed down the metabolism of the Effexor I'm taking, resulting in increased serum levels, and increased side effects, namely anxiety and hypertension. Anyway. Long story shortish: Gotta discontinue Effexor to see if that was what caused the hypertension. Getting crazy discontinuation syndrome - headspins, restlessness. Feeling hot ad cold at the same time. Addled brain. It's no wonder - the mantle of my perception is being put thru a neurological blender... I wandered thru the shopping center tonight like a dementia patient for 20 minutes with one item in my basket and a confused look on my face.
[Quiz bit starts here. Square brackets are cool]
Anyway, tonight while feeling the effects of SSRI discontinuation, I had an urge to listen to Puscifier's "V Is for Vagina", an album I'd not really gotten into. I really liked it. Reminded me of the same sort of thing happening to me when I went on high dose Zyprexa and suddenly REALLY clicked with Front 242's album "Pulse".
It made me think that drugs can influence a mind in an incredibly strong way, and change the perception and enjoyment of music in an equally strong way.
CUT TO THE FUCKING CHASE!
Name drugs and the albums, artists or songs that really gel with you or remind you of when you were under the influence of those drugs. Situations, events, and aromas can all exert just as much of an influence as drugs. Use them too. (Similar to my "Music and periods of ur life quiz from about a year ago).
Here's mine:
SSRI discontinuation syndrome - Puscifier: "V is for Vagina"
Psychedelic DXM experiences - Delerium: "Karma"
Being a zombie on Zyprexa - Front 242: Pulse.
Smoking weed on the gold coast in the hot summer - Sneaker Pimps: "Becoming X"
Taking too much Xanax every day for a while - Robbie Williams: "Escapology"
Being trapped at home depressed and with a broken ankle - NiN: "With Teeth"
First time drunk - White Zombie: "Astro Creep 2000"
Acid experience - Boards of Canada - Hi Scores
Codeine - Junkie XL - "Saturday Teenage Kick"
Nitrous Oxide intoxication - Any Infected Mushroom.
