[Kirk wished he could say he was surprised by the sudden turn of events on this port. But it was the Barge, so if there was such a thing as a boring port, then that was really worrisome. Was there some horrible death awaiting them out there? Probably. But sitting around this Vault thing wasn't going to do any good ( Read more... )

"As I'll ever be." Shego eyed the gun. She didn't especially like them, but she'd used one once or twice during the zombie port and if this was going to be anything like that she'd have appreciated having one now. And the Barge was definitely getting to her if the first thing she thought of in this situation were zombies.

She was heading to the vault door as they spoke. "So. Two days. Don't suppose you got a map?"

"Nope," Kirk answered easily. There didn't appear to be any food either, which he could live without for a couple of days but just not having any was weird. But at least there was water and his communicator from the Barge, which would obviously be super useful if something went wrong.

"I'm guessing we need to get to the other side of the city and get past zombies or giant rabbits or something."

"Giant rabbits. Yeah, that's exactly what I thought this environment was missing."

'This environment' was visible now. Beyond the door there was a vista of ruined scrubland, littered with the occasional burnt-out skeleton of a house, or the piles of rubble where they'd once been. On the horizon she could see what she could only assume to be the outline of Megaton - and wasn't that a promising name? Yeah. She manoeuvred around some of the rubble that had fallen in the way of the path out, and into the light.

"Might as well get going. The sooner I can take off this jumpsuit and never see it again, the better."

"Hear, hear," Kirk murmured, giving the landscape one last grim glance over. This was reminding him of the zombie port too much. In the bleak sort of way that meant that something terrible was going to happen and the Admiral was not going to care.

"Do you have any of your powers?"

She'd sort of assumed she wouldn't and hadn't actually checked, but on request she hurled a green fireball at a nearby wall that had presumably once been part of a larger structure. With her full powers, it would have been gone forever, and with the ten per cent Kirk had given her it might have cracked or taken a chunk out. This did basically nothing besides kick up some dust.

"Same as when I first showed up," she judged, frowning.

"Awesome." He'd kind of been hoping that she didn't have a weapon because she had her powers but it just looked like the blanket ban against Inmates. "We should try and find something for you to use to defend yourself better." Plus what he was holding sucked. It was probably best used a stick to beat people with.

"Isn't that what you're here for?" They were following a path, of sorts, meandering across the landscape - not really a road, more of a trail. Good in that it gave them something to follow, bad in that it meant this place wasn't unpopulated. "Anything goes south, I'll just hide behind you until it's over or until you're giving me a convenient human shield."

Kirk gave her a look like, 'yeah right you're going to do that' before rolling his eyes.

"Yeah, no. You are not that much of a wuss."

"No, not so much." She glanced at him as they trudged. "Can you actually use a real gun? Do they still have those in the future?"

"Shoot, you're right, we're probably going to die because real bullets are my weakness," Kirk replied sarcastically. "Unless you want to take over."

"I'm just saying that I know how to use a gun and they aren't the same as your phase things," she said, ever so slightly snappishly. "Sue me for having a vague interest in us surviving this."

"I've fired a real gun before." Maybe he wasn't super great with aiming when he had to deal with a kick from the gun but he could still shoot. "That's also why I suggested we find you a weapon as well."

"Yeah. Okay." She didn't want to think about how that was going to work, because everything they were walking past looked pretty well picked over and she suspected the only way of getting a firearm would be finding or creating a dead body and taking whatever weaponry was on its person. She almost regretted not bringing Rex's nanomite syringe with her. Then again, she probably would have lost it altogether while transitioning to the horrible jumpsuit ( ... )

Kirk didn't really have a snappy retort in response to that since most of his attention was focused on how to escape this alive with only a handful of rounds left. It wasn't really looking very promising.

"We can't hold this for much longer," he said, probably needlessly since once they ran out of ammo, they were screwed. "When I signal, you're going to make a run for it to that building over there, alright?"

There was almost a remark of the 'how the hell will being ten feet closer to where we're going help us at all' variety but she bit it back, mostly because she couldn't be heard over a few seconds of renewed gunfire. She felt the reverberation in the metal as a bullet passed through the sheeting a few inches over her head.

"Alright. What are gonna do?"

"I'll follow in a minute," Kirk answered vaguely. Though it was probably clear that he had every intention of playing the dumb hero so that she had a way better chance of getting away than he did.

He tightened his grip on the gun, knowing that six shots would really get them nothing in the end except a mild distraction. "Ready? I'm going to aim for that one on the end and you are just going to run."
