I wonder if they have telepathic abilities... or perhaps some device that manages to turn our own minds against us.

Neither one would be surprising. I'd lean towards the first, but given their ability to drag us all from different universes... the latter may be more understandable.

I wouldn't be shocked by either one, but it does seem like they're more scientific in their methods. It is a powerful weapon, whether it be something natural to them or something they've created, though.

...I've seen you around, but I don't think we've talked before. Captain Jack Harkness, and you are?

Edward Cullen. I've seen you around the house the Doctor lives in. You know him, don't you?

Yeah, I live there too. [There's a laugh.] Though whether anyone really knows the Doctor is a good question. We're... [Ahah, how to explain their relationship to someone he's just met?] ...close. I've known him for a very long time. You a friend of his?

I would say contact more than friend. We speak to each other in passing. I tend to keep to myself.

He tends to draw just about anyone into talking, though. He's like that.

[You can hear the smile in Jack's voice now.] So, what made you decide to talk to me, then?

It's amazing that he thinks more than he talks.

[ Well, that makes him amused. ] Boredom, mostly. And, one less person with brooding thoughts saves me the headache in the end.

I can hardly imagine that. But I know he thinks circles around most of us.

[Amused now as well.] I've been told I'm anything but boring. [That comment caught his interest, though...] So, other people's thoughts give you headaches, huh? Or is the emotions that bother you?

I hear their passing thoughts. Usually the emotions behind them aren't that bothersome, unless something like those earthquakes happen.

I'm usually pretty good at shielding... had a bit of training, back home. I'll make sure I do if I see you in person, if that will help. Thoughts are a lot easier to shield than emotions, too.

[[OOC: Canonly, Jack wasn't able to be read by a telepath... she said he was "just blank, like he was dead." It's up to interpretation as to whether that's from his immortality or whether he's had mental training. He said he could feel her searching his thoughts, so I tend to lean toward the latter, but it could be a bit of both. Might be fun to play with for Edward?]

I'd imagine you'd have to. Hearing everyone's thoughts all the time would drive you crazy pretty quick. [He's curious now, too.] Something you were born with or...?
