I'd really like to know how they do it. They must have some sort of telepathic ability, to be able to get so deep into our fears.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear they had that card in their hand. They're certainly cruel enough for it.

It's either that or some technology beyond our understanding, to be able to turn our fears and memories against us. But yes, their cruelty is quite... extensive.
