It's over, huh? Good. I need... [He trails off, perhaps unsure what he needs. A drink? A friend? A good night's sleep? A bullet to the head?]
...to forget all that. Somehow.
They always know just what buttons to push, don't they?
[Jack sighs and sets the journal aside, intending to switch it off. Before he does, however, one might hear

It would be nice if that were possible, right? I don't think I can forget it that easily, though.

If you're that desperate, you could ask someone to Obliviate you. It's really a matter of if you'd take the risk.

...I'm guessing from context that "Oblivate" would be some sort of memory-erasing magic?

The thing I've always liked about you, Captain, is that you're very good with deductive reasoning. [Okay, maybe not always liked, but good enough.] It's exactly as it sounds.

Heh. I'm usually pretty good at figuring things out. [His voice takes on a thoughtful tone.] How specific is that magic? Can you take only certain memories, or will it wipe a whole period of time?

And that's one of the reasons you're more tolerable than most. [He pauses though, because explaining their magic is always a bit tricky, never mind the fact that it's still planted in his brain that they're not supposed to share with Muggles. But...he couldn't talk for two weeks. Two long weeks. This is an acceptable use of words.] Portions of a person's memory, yes. We use them often to erase the memory of any Muggle who sees something from our world. Flying broomsticks, spells, dragons, things like that.

Only "more tolerable," huh? I think I can do better than that. [There's a grin before he turns more serious.] That's... a tempting idea. There's things from this last week I think I don't want to remember. [And things from his past too... but that might take more consideration.]

Only more tolerable, though you're more than welcome to challenge that and change it. [He thought so. He pauses though to really consider this.] Tempting though it may be, should one ever want to reverse it the effects are even messier. Really, it depends if you want that risk.
Reply
[He's still considering the idea, but now something else has occurred to him.] You said it can reverse effects too? Would it be possible to get memories back that have already been lost?
Reply
...well yes. There is a way to reverse effects, but it's usually incredibly messy. Memories might be scrambled, your mind might be scrambled, things like that. Why?

Even if it wasn't done by magic in the first place? It might still work?
I'm asking because... two years of my life have been erased from my memories. I don't know how or even why. It's why I left the Time Agency, a long time ago.
