so, in comparison with the last entry, this one feels much less dreamy and far less uncertain.

on friday night we had a party in korpus 4 with the french-canadians and pretty much anyone who wanted to get really drunk. the beginning of the night was probably one of the best hours i have spent abroad. i sat with bario and guillaume, drank vodka with bread, cheese, and pickles, and talked about the ideal partner and what is pretty much the joi de vivre when it comes to women. more francophones joined and the atmosphere was gorgeous in the way that words often describe inadequately.

forward 5 hours later and i am holding jordana berk's (another beloiter) hand as she lies at the bottom of a staircase in a pool of blood. jordana was just unlucky. she slipped on the stairs while holding a beer bottle and on the way down the bottle broke and cut a vein in her neck. people were drunk, scared, and really confused. and considering its russia, it took the ambulance nearly 40 minutes to arrive. with blood covering my sandals and arm, i watched her leave alone and hoped that russia wouldn't act like russia for this one moment, so jordana would be taken care of.

there are so many other details to tell about that night, but i have told them far too many times now and need a break. jordana is fine, sitting in a clean russian hospital, and has been given the two liters of blood she lost. its been crazy and frustrating at times to be the liason between a million different people, including the US embassy and her parents.

and all this in the middle of some of the greatest weather in history. the bitter actually does make the sweet much sweeter. it was snowing on may 3rd. now it is 85 degrees and sunny.

and i have become used to moscow and made friends with people, including some people whom i consider myself quite close with now. so the certainty lies in the fact that i don't want to leave russia now. i spent the entire semester hoping to go home and now i want to be eating cheese and apples in the park, having a beer while learning french, and being with people who are wonderful in a way that is often lacking.

(gigantic sigh)
