storm

Just as I was going to bed, I was laying awake because that's when story and rp thoughts come to me.  Which is a little annoying when I have to get up in the morning, but for summer it's ok.  Anyway.  I saw some dim flashes and I thought it was the neighbors or something, so I looked out the window and instead it was lightning.

Ok, so I love storms.  But after the fire stuff that had happened and being covered in smoke and ash and not being able to see the sun and stars for several weeks, just seeing lightning was pretty scary.  The area was dry before and now it's extra dry because we don't get rain much if at all during the summer.  So if it was a dry lightning... which is what caused the second set of giant fires and brought in the smoke and all that stuff.  The first big fire, the one I took pictures of, was arson, by the way.  Second set was dry lightning that I saw over the hills while walking back from the movies.

So there was just lightning, and no thunder or rain, but it was pretty far off.  I also have this pretty irrational fear of the house being struck by lightning and eletricity spouting out through the electrical sockets... there are two pressed up against my bed, so.. I spent like an hour and a half laying awake in fear of fire and death by eletricity because everything is scarier at night.

Then it started pouring and that was such a good sign, but it only lasted five minutes, and I tried to go to sleep, feeling a little better that there was rain at least somewhere.  Apparently the lightning was surrounding us because it was out my window, west of us, and it was out my parents' window, east of us.  And it was also to the north.  I couldn't see a southern window to see if it was coming through there, but it didn't seem to be from my broad window view.

It was after the second five minute dourpour that I finally heard thunder.  I should have looked at the time, but I didn't, it was late and I hadn't slept much because you know.. dry lightning is rather scary.  But I was so grateful for the thunder and I spent like the next twenty or thirty minutes thanking God profusely that there was thunder too and it was just a normal thunderstorm and not the dry lightning like before.  It got pretty loud and it lasted all night.

There are like a dozen fires.  I smelled a little smoke when I woke up, but the sky is still blue and it's all humid from the storm, so I don't think things will get too bad.  But it was a pretty stressful night.

stuff: fires, weather
