I had read this verse a while back and forgot where it was located. But this morning as I read Ephesians I found it! I love it because it simplifies God's love so amazingly. And it encourages me to observe his way of love and copy it.
Ephesians 5:2Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.
I think sometimes we view Jesus as the perfect man who knew no sin and was fragil and weak. He was God incarnate. He was not like a sheltered child, he knew every thought that transpired in the minds around Him. He knew the good and the evil of all he came into contact with and even those he did not. Yet... he was kind and gentle. We couldn't bare to stand in his presence a moment with our minds the way they are, no matter how pure we keep our thoughts because His purity is light years beyond ours. Can you imagine how many evil people he stood before and did not hate them? We are insulted by the slightest word and he endured even their evil thoughts toward him. He still endured it today amd loves us, loves me when I so obviously doubt him at times. What shame we should feel when we doubt him.
But his mercies are new every morning.
22The LORD'S lovingkindness indeed never ceases,
For His mercies never fail.
23They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
