Chapter 17
Ianto was lying on the sofa, his head resting against Jack's lap as the older man ran his fingers through his hair. They were both just enjoying the day. That is until Ianto felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, he pulled it out to see home calling. He looked up at Jack who snatched the phone from Ianto's hands.
“Hello?” Jack asked, he wondered if it was Ianto's mother and maybe she was in one of her depressed moods, instead of a drunken one.
“Why have you got my sons phone? And who are you?” Jack glared at the floor. Mr Jones couldn't think of Ianto as a son if he did that to him.
“I'm Jack Harkness, I'm your sons history teacher. He's here with me. Not that you care.”
“What has he been telling you? He makes up stories...” Jack enjoyed the panic in the man's voice.
“Not so much tell me, Mr Jones. He showed me.” Jack snapped. “And if you think that you're going to even talk to him, let alone see him you're mistaken.” Jack looked over at Ianto who was shaking, he held out his hand and Ianto took it instantly, their fingers linking together.
“He's my son!” The man growled.
“If he was your son you wouldn't beat him, and you wouldn't have let him out of the house last night with a bottle of painkillers intent on killing himself!” Jack shouted. “Now. I'm going to hang up the phone and call the police.”
“Look you don't have to call the police. I'm sure we can work this out.” Mr Jones said.
“Work what out?” Jack said and ended the call, just talking to Ianto's father made him feel sick.
“Jack... I don't want to go to the police. Please?” Ianto looked close to tears and Jack hated the thought of him crying.
“He needs to be punished...” Jack growled.
“If... If what you say is true about God and heaven and hell... then he will be punished... it says in the Bible...”
“You're right... he will be punished.” Jack says softly. “Are you sure you don't want to go to the police? I guess it is your decision.”
“I don't want to. But... I don't want to go home either.”
“You're not. You're staying right here.” Jack said and squeezed Ianto's hand tightly.
“How?” Ianto asked.
“You're sixteen. You can get emancipated, we wont have to go to the Police or anything cause hey, we got God on our side.” Jack winked.
“You're far too corny.” Ianto replied. “But... is that enough?”
“Anything else that needs doing I'm sure we'll have all the help we need.” Jack said, Ianto looked up at the ceiling and then back at Jack who smiled at him.
“Is it really that easy?”
“Oh believe me, the paper work is a bitch.” Jack grinned. “But... we wont be the ones doing it, so yes. It is that easy.” Jack smiles at him. Ianto chuckles and leans in and hugs him.
“Thank you. For everything.” Ianto says softly. Jack just smiles and presses a soft kiss on Ianto's forehead. “I need to go home and get my clothes, unless being emancipated means I don't have to go to school...”
“No. You're still going to school.” Jack chuckles. “I suppose... we could go over there and get you some of your stuff?”
“I...”
“I wont let him hurt you.” Jack promised. Ianto nodded his head slowly.
The two got into Jack's car, and drove silently to Ianto's house. “Will you come in with me?” Ianto asked chewing at his bottom lip.
“I wouldn't let you in there with me not being beside you.” Jack said and squeezed Ianto's hand. “Come on.” They got out of the car and Ianto knocked on the door, a few minutes later his sister answered.
“Ianto, what the hell is going on?” Rhiannon shouted straight away, not even bothering about Jack standing there. “Mums gone mental again, Dad said you tried to off yourself. You didn't... did you?” Ianto looked guiltily at the floor. “Ianto how could you! You're so selfish, you know that? After everything dads been through with mum being sick!”
“I just want some clothes.” Ianto managed to say though his head and heart were screaming at him to say something else. Rhiannon held the door open and he and Jack walked in, Jack looking at Rhiannon like she was scum, he so badly wanted to say something to her but managed to hold his tongue. Ianto headed up to his room Jack stood in the door way. Ianto's room was a mess. Ianto felt his body tense as he stared at his stuff all over the floor. He gulped and tried to push it away.
“Clothes. I just need. Clothes.” Ianto said whilst taking deep breaths. Jack frowned and watched as Ianto tried to breathe properly. He walked over to him and wrapped his arms around his waist and tried to calm him down. “It's too messy. I...”
“You want to clean it?” Jack asked. Ianto shook his head even though he really did. “I can help.” Ianto looked up at Jack who smiled. Ianto nodded his head and started to pick some stuff from the floor with shaking hands.
“Why don't you put them in a bag and we can take them to mine?” Jack asks.
“All of it?” Ianto asks. Jack nods his head and finds some black bags under Ianto's beds with a bunch of cleaning supplies, Jack guesses that Ianto's room gets messed up on a daily basis. He hates Ianto's father even more now.
Ianto starts putting the books and the few CD's and DVD's he has in the bags with Jack help. Jack smiled at Ianto once his things were packed, he grabbed his school bag and then pulled some of his clothes from his closet and put them in bags. He looked around his room and sighed.
“Ianto... are you really leaving?” Rhiannon asks. “Where are you going?”
“Going to stay with Jack.” Ianto says quietly.
“He's your teacher. It's inappropriate.” Rhiannon snaps.
“He's been there for me.” Ianto says. “More then you. And mum and dad. You're all the reason why I can't stay here.” Ianto sighs, he takes some bags and he and Jack walk out.
“Dad's not going to be happy.” Rhiannon shouts.
“Dad's never happy! I guess he just wont have me as a punch bag now to let it out on.” Ianto shouts back causing Rhiannon to shut up. Jack opens the boot and Ianto puts his stuff away.
“Hey, you're going to be okay now.” Jack says softly. Ianto nods his head, he hopes so.
