Forty-Nine Kings Slain

Jun 19, 2009 16:04

Those who help with the stables would already know, but to those who do not, during an attack by the horse fiend who was recently at large, two of the Chocobos were slain: Kula and Hubble ( Read more... )

You're the person in charge of the Chocolate birds?

... chocolate birds?

Ah, I believe you have been misinformed. They are not made of chocolate, nor the color of it either. [Is rather amused by this actually.]

But I suppose you could say I am in charge of them. I do a lot of work with them. Is there something you need help with?

No, I was just told about them. Euphemia wants to visit them.

...Why are they called Chocobos if they're not made out of chocolate or chocolate colored?

Ah, well the stables are still a mess... and there is blood from the attack so... perhaps in a few days when things are cleaned up. The Chocobos are still settling down from everything as well, so they are a bit jumpy.

But you are both welcome to visit at that time.

There are actually brown Chocobos, but the ones we domesticate are yellow and are the most common. Tis merely a name, I know not why the chose it when there is no chocolate involved. [He chuckles a little.]

Oh no...

I'm really sorry Basch. That's terrible.

And...oh god, this is going to sound terribly insensitive straight off after, but before it goes to waste...

There is...um...a fair amount of meat on them, right? Anything salvageable? I mean...I know they were beloved and sort of like pets, but...

If we can we really shouldn't waste...

Mm...

[He doesn't think badly of her for the question, it's a good one considering the situation in Discedo.]

Do not worry, Miss Nani, tis a preferably good question to ask. If anything, it is something not uncommon to do during battle or travel if a steed passes. If food is short there is no reason to let it go to waste.

I can bring the meat to you later today.

Yeah, I'm...just trying to be practical about it. The one we cooked for Thanksgiving came out okay, and it would be a nice change from all the cow, and shark-gator so...

Thank you. And I hope the others will settle down from being so badly startled.

I really just hope all of this settles down soon.

Being practical is a good quality when dealing this a place like this. Do not feel bad for asking.

With a few more days they shall be back to normal, they are merely a bit more ruffled than usual. Though the lingering scent of death does not help. Once the stables are cleaned up and back in order it shall help their demeanor.

What about Takoyaki and Ikayaki?

They are fine, thankfully. It seemed the beast was hungry for larger birds and not your small fowl or the cow.

Though they are as spooked as the Chocobos, understandably.

I'll stop by later, if I can... not that that'd comfort them much, but...

I know it's bad to be relieved about this, but I still kinda am.

That would be fine. I think any comforting attention would be good for them. They are animals, but to a degree your words and feelings do get through to them.

They are special to you are they not? Your relief that they are safe is only normal.

I am sorry for the loss.

Please, do be careful.

I am as careful as one can be in this city. If I go out, Balthier usually is at my side. I know tis better to have someone watching your back, especially on a battlefield.

Discedo may be a city, but it is very much a war zone as of now.

How are things with you, Miss Saber?

That is good to hear. Would that others would exercise such prudence.

Yes, it is very much so.

I have been keeping as many safe as I am able, but even then it seems that it is not enough.

I wish it as well. It seems as though the majority of deaths happen when a person is alone... I figured it was only common sense to be with someone while out till things are resolved.

You can only do so much. If the people do not try to protect themselves sometimes it is difficult to be of any help to them.

Next time, no one will have to be lost. I promise you that.

Thank you for such words...

I can hope that they shall become true, but in this city, it seems death is as common as breathing.

That may be true, but I can't not try. Too much tragedy has happen in such a short notice. If all I can do is something small, I will still do it.

After all, all we have is our ability to try and hope.

I would hardly fault you for wanting to protect and help people. You are a good soul for wanting to do so.

Aye, that is very true.
