"It's not fair," I grumbled into my salad of wilted leaves. I looked over at Amarthara, her long black ringlets falling over her face. She looked through them at me.
"It just is the way it is here," she replied, all philosophical and zen-like. "We are not considered equal citizens, but the elders tell of times when it was far worse for women."
I sighed, why did they roll over and take it so easily? "Women make up over half the population, why should we be shackled? We can do everything a man can. We could fight unseen by them!"
