a thousand miles traveled, and I'm still lost...

So, since Thursday, I have driven over a thousand miles... woo-hoo.

Thursday night Jon and I drove up to Owassipe in Whitehall Michigan. On the way, we stopped for Wendy's in Holland, home of the big wooden shoe. It's amazing that the town's tourism is based around wooden shoes. So we pull through the Drive-thru and I order what I always order, a number 6 with a Frosty. Spicy Chicken Sandwich and it was delicious. The only problem was... a frosty is a little hard to drink through a straw, and the girl working the window forgot to give me a spoon. Now, I'm a calm and quiet person, so naturally the first thing I did when I realized her simple mistake was to shout "The bitch didn't give me a spoon". Little did I know, she had opened the window again, probably to check if I had gotten everything. Feeling a little bit like an asshole, I just tucked tail and drove on to eat my delicious Spicy Chicken Sandwich and spend the next 30 minutes trying to suck a frosty through a straw.

All day friday was spent hanging around camp. In the morning we escorted the young energetic and annoying Kyle to the shooting range. That was.... testing. I miss being active in the troop. While I have some different political views than the program, as in my tolerance of homosexuals for starters -- all that aside, I honestly feel that the program is a worthwhile one and I wish I could be more active and do more with the young-uns. The troop can do so much good for people. It molds decent folks out of the boys that come in. Me and Jon went out for Dog'n'Suds and Monster Shakes.... tasty food, tasty servers. Friday night my bro David and Andy Bogue performed Blindfarmer and the Spacechicken at the closing campfire. It was... bitchen, truly. Saturday morning, we were up and on the road by 7:45. Woo-hoo!

I drove four hours home and then slept for an hour and then drove to St. Louis for some family fun. Me and David and our folks went with most of my mom's side of the family to stay in downtown St. Louis for the Cubs/Cards game. St. Louis sucks. Not their sports teams, the cards are better than the cubs. The town sucks. We were staying in downtown St. Louis and we went walking to find a place to go for breakfast. We walked for a good twenty minutes before settling for TGIFridays. Nobody lives downtown in St. Louis so the city seemed to shut down for the weekend. That made me want to go downtown soon. The real downtown. So, after breakfast we went to Grant's Farm. For those of you that are out of the loop, this is a rare animal/alcohol tour sponsored by the makers of Budweiser, the world's most popular beer. Good times.

After the farm, we went to the game and roasted in the dank, humid, stanky St. Louis evening air. It was a balmy 94 when we arrived at the game and a refreshing 85 when we left. Delicious. I had fun though with the Fam. Monday morning we went to an Irish Pub on the south side of St. Louis. It was called O'Connel's which may be spelled wrong, but it was so weird. I know that even the distantly related Irish look a lot alike, but the guy behind the bar (presumably the owner) looked a hell of a lot like Kerri O'Connell's dad Joe. The only difference being that this guy was about 70 and had long white hair.

So after all that, I said my goodbyes and began the long drive home to Chicago, a city worth calling home. I still don't know any of the secrets of life, only that I have work in a few hours and my Air-conditioning is broken, so my house is almost as hot as Busch Stadium was yesterday... yuck. Jenny, you asked for an update. It's not much, but its the best I can do for the time being. I'll talk to y'all real soon~ roger
