Beef, it's whats for Dinner!

I don't want to steal too much from Maddox's site. I can't stand the hypocrisy of PETA though. I am a member of the 'veggie club' here at good ole UIS. Don't get anything in a bunch. We had to join a student club here as a requirement for one of my brilliant classes. In any case, I joined the veggie club, we meet once a month and then go out once a month for free food. No meat, but I can deal. I make up for the missed meat at other meals by doubling my usual intake at other meals.

Now, PETA claims to be the authority on Animal Rights, and the "Ethical Treatment" of animals. There new slogan is: Question Authority. What the hell? Why should I listen to you PETA? Just cause you say something I'm supposed to change my way of life?

They are quick to point out that chickens are killed when they are two months old. Pigs are slaughtered before they reach 6 months, and cows rarely live to see one year. I don't know to what degree these facts have been manipulated. In any case, what is wrong with eating young animals. All through nature, when a predator is following a group of animals it is most likely going to try and kill the weakest of the group. Often times this means either the oldest, or the youngest of the group. As sad as it may be to realize that you are eating a dead 'baby', is it really that bad? PETA says that the majority of animals are grossly mistreated and abused when they are being raised for slaughter. Would PETA really want to make the animals suffer longer? People will always eat meat. Until cows revolt because of our 'inhumane' treatment, we are going to raise them the same way. Is this a way of limiting the animal's suffering?

How is it possible to treat animals humanely and do they deserve it? Is there a universal set of ethics that we should all adhere to? I don't know... its three in the morning and I don't know what I'm saying anymore...maybe I'll fix this later ~ Roger
