Waking up is hard to do...

Jul 23, 2011 19:46

He'd been awake for just over 36 hours now. The SHIELD doctors were telling him to sleep, but every time he laid down to rest, Steve's dreams were filled with ice and falling...and Peggy's voice saying "You're late" over and over. The War was long over, and several others had passed as well, and Steve had no idea what anyone was talking about half ( Read more... )

Steve glanced up from his book at his new guest, then blinked, opened his mouth a bit, then blinked again, looking confused. Then his brain caught back up and he glanced back down to the book he'd been reading. "You must be Tony Stark," he said as he stood and walked over, offering his hand.

Glancing down at the small device...that 'cellular phone'...Steve grimaced at the picture of the old costumes and the girls. "Oh..um, they weren't my idea."

Remembering that ridiculous white room made Steve scowl and shake his head a bit in disapproval as he turned to sit back down on his bed, motioning for Tony to join him. "I only new him for a few years..." he said, then looked at the book and shrugged a bit. "I guess I just wanted to know that someone's life got better after the War. It's...well it's really impressive, but I'm sure you'd know all about that."

He frowned just a little at that salute, but let it go when he saw the picture, then glanced away guiltily. "I knew about the Manhattan Project...I can't help but wonder if any of them knew how powerful that bomb was...and then why they used it again."

Steve makes no comment on the war profiteering, because to be frank a great many people profited from war (including himself by proxy) and he thought it was unfair to judge. "Well he got married and had a son; I count that as better. It's what I wanted."

Steve chuckled just a little at the 'voluntarily' comment, starting to relax as well. Tony was very much like Howard, and they had always gotten on well. "It absolutely voluntary because I have absolutely no place else to go."

The option of starting a family however made him blush just a little and shake his head, "I'm not really interested in meeting girls." And he has no idea that that might mean anything other than that.

"No thanks, I don't need any charity Mr. Stark," he said with a wave of his hand. As Tony continued though, Steve just looked more and more confused. "You have trouble picking men out of a crowd? Is that...some kind of condition?"

Steve looked slightly embarrassed, he hated knowing that he'd said something silly but having no idea what or why. He watched Tony stand, growing curious, then he just grinned and stood as well. "Yeah, I know what shopping is...though I'm not too sure what a mall is."

He crossed the room to pull on his combat boots. He's only got a SHIELD t-shirt and some trousers to wear. "Is this all right? I don't want to be chased by agents again."

When Tony looked him over, he glanced down at himself again, frowning lightly as he followed him out into the base. "I'm going to pretend that I understand everything you just said, but you really don't have to go to any trouble for me, Tony...Agent Coulson is working out my back pay for the Army; I'll be fine for now."

"Well I think I mostly understood it, but I'm still not really comfortable with just letting you pay for me --oh!" He blinked in surprise when he nearly ran into Tony, his eyes widening in surprise even though he was a few inches teller.

"I'm pretty flexible..." he muttered as he looked over the car that looked more like a space ship to him. It was much lower to the ground than he was used to so it took Steve a moment to figure out how to step in while ducking at the same time -- he ended up with his knees resting against the dash as he looked around curiously.

Then he noticed a few agents running out of the building as they pulled away, and he looked at Tony with a growing grin. "We aren't supposed to do this, are we?"
