summer!

May 24, 2007 18:05

so it's summertime. yippee! haha.
anyway.
this post might be kinda long... three parts.

first part: my devotional from today.
today i read this and i was just... well read it and you'll get what i mean.
"...God is a living person who can be known. But we're only as close as we want to be. God isn't playing hard to get. Our progress toward God depends on our determination to know him and love him. We must want to know God. As long as we have only a vague discontent with our present way of living and an indefinite desire for spiritual things, our lives will continue to stagnate. We often say, 'I'm not really joyful or peaceful; I guess that's the way life is.' Our first task is to dispel that vague discontent and get honest with ourselves. DO WE WANT GOD IN US OR NOT?"
yeah. definitely guilty of just being stagnant a lot of times...

second part: a song.
so i've never really liked country music, but my sister absolutely loves it. don't know how that happened. anyway, she was down visiting this week so i was forced to hear country radio... a lot. and i heard this one song that i thought was particularly... well i'll say it... cute.
Drivin' through town just my boy and me
With a "Happy Meal" in his booster seat
Knowin' that he couldn’t have the toy 'til his nuggets were gone.
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath.
His fries went a flyin', and his orange drink covered his lap
Well, then my 4 year old said a 4 letter word
It started with "S" and I was concerned
So I said, "Son, now where’d you learn to talk like that?"

He said, I've been watching you, dad ain't that kool?
I'm your buckaroo, I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah, we're just alike, hey, ain’t we dad
I want to do everything you do.
So I've been watching you.

We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said, "Lord, please help me help my stupid self."
Just this side of bedtime later that night
Turnin' on my son's Scooby-doo nightlight.
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees.
He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
Spoke to God like he was talkin' to a friend.
And I said, "Son, now where'd you learn to pray like that?"

He said, I've been watching you, dad ain't that kool?
I'm your buckaroo; I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We like fixin' things and holding mama's hand
Yeah, we're just alike, hey, ain't we dad.
I want to do everything you do; so I've been watching you.

With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug.
Said, "My little bear is growin' up."
And he said, "But when I'm big I'll still know what to do."

'cause I've been watching you, dad ain't that kool?
I'm your buckaroo; I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
By then I'll be strong as superman
We'll be just alike, hey, won't we dad
When I can do everything you do.
'cause I've been watchin' you.

so yeah that's about it. my life. oh and almost forgot the third part...
i want to hear from you...
a) how your summer break has been so far
and
b) what awesome plans you guys have for the summer
i want to hear. alright i'm done.
