Jack's Character Relationships
Hikaru Sulu
Their first meeting being less than spectacular, it took Jack a while to warm up to Sulu and his friendship with Ianto. Then he took great pleasure in trying to get on Sulu's nerves, under his skin, pressing all of his buttons and toeing that line between professionalism and flirting since he recognized how much it threw the other man. But slowly, Jack came to realize that Sulu was a really great guy, and as he watched him with Ianto, he could see that the two of them really had something between them, and so he let them have their space to feel that out. It wasn't really until Ianto's death that Jack really came to appreciate Sulu for what a strong person he is, and now he's under the branch of people that Jack would sacrifice everything in order to support, because he knows that Sulu would do the same. Jack considers Sulu to be one of his closest friends and allies at the moment, and most importantly as an equal in their relationship with Ianto. He still tries to pull his Captain card on the other occasionally, because he knows the other man appreciates authority and will listen if he does. He definitely appreciates Ianto's choice in another person to include in their relationship. He knows that Sulu will do whatever he can to protect and care for Ianto, and so there isn't another man he'd rather share him with.
Ianto Jones
Ianto and Jack have a complicated relationship, and probably always will. It's obvious that Jack loves him very much, but he's yet to actually say any of that aloud to the other man. He trusts that Ianto knows, but he definitely knows that he needs to step it up at some point for the other man's sake. Ianto and him rub each other the wrong way sometimes, and have a hard time communicating what's really important to each other, but they're working on it, and hopefully that will be better eventually. When Ianto died, Jack was absolutely gutted by it, to the extent that he tried to run away from the entire planet just to get away from the guilt of causing that. Now that Ianto's back and cured, he still blames himself for Ianto's death, and is reluctant to let him back into Torchwood when they finish rebuilding. He knows that he's going to have to, but that doesn't stop him from feeling apprehensive about it, and like he'd rather order Ianto to work in a giant hamster ball full of bubble wrap, if he has to let him back at all.
Gwen Cooper
Jack has a very close relationship with Gwen, his second in command, one of his closest friends, although he made a royal mess of it when he tried to run away from the planet after Ianto's death, and left her with the entire Torchwood organization solely on her shoulders. Now he's trying to win her affections back, but it's hard because she's stubborn and he's never been very good at apologizing. She is what reminds him of everything that's good about the 21st century, and being human, things that he's lost track of for living so long and having such a hard life. He thinks that Rhys is a lucky man for having caught Gwen when he did, for having a wife like her, even if he does pity the other man a little bit for the fact that Torchwood interferes with so much of their personal lives. He respects Gwen and her opinions and her decisions, and is trying to do right by her, but the pair of them have such tempers and attitudes that sometimes it's hard for the pair of them to get along, especially when they each have a point to prove.
The Doctor
Probably the closest thing that Jack will ever have to a mentor or a role model, the Doctor means a lot to him. He's been hurt by the man and he's been saved by him, been through a year of torture with him and been abandoned for centuries by him, so. To say that his emotions towards the man are complicated would be an understatement. Jack still has problems with the fact that the Doctor called him wrong, and has even more problems with the fact that when he needed him the most, to help and save Ianto in some way or another, that the man was absolutely nowhere to be found. Jack knows that there's got to be some sort of reason why the Doctor wouldn't have helped, but he also knows that whatever it is, it's still not good enough for him. He's met the Doctor's next regeneration, so even though he just saw his death he knows that this isn't the end for his friend, but at the same time, he's sad to see his friend leave and change yet again. He hopes to someday gain the respect of the other man, but he knows that that will be no simple feat.
Leonard McCoy
Jack respects McCoy for the great job he does with his profession, and is extremely grateful for what the other man has done for them in the recent months, both with treating and finding a cure for Ianto, as well as offering a medical support for Torchwood in a time when they so desperately need it. Jack is grateful also for McCoy's offer of a sort of casual counseling session over drinks, and might even take him up on that. Who knows, if things go well with that, Jack might start to make it a regularly scheduled occurrence?
James Kirk
According to Sulu, Jack and Jim are really quite similar to each other, so maybe that's why Jack gets along with him so well, or maybe it's just because of their similar statuses and jobs. Regardless, Jack sees an ally in Jim, a connection to another organization that can help Torchwood and his two friends, at least to some extent. There was a bit of a rocky start, professionally, but the two of them got it ironed out, and now Jack's free to relax and enjoy himself with Jim a little more freely than he's been able to so far.
Montgomery Scott
Jack finds Scotty pretty entertaining, with his engineer talk and his Scottish accent and that blush that he can bring out of him if he tries hard enough. He appreciates that Scotty has tried to flirt back with him so far, although he hopes that Scotty realizes that he's really flirting with him, and if presented with the opportunity, Jack would certainly have a little fun with the other man, there's no doubt about that. He's extremely grateful of that one day that Scotty found him wandering around the Enterprise not in the best of moods and offered him a drink and some company. He's hoping that scotty really will help him set up a brewery somewhere in the lower levels of the Hub, when he's got them cleared out again, and will definitely not forget that challenge of a drinking contest sometime.
Saguru Hakuba
Hakuba worked with Torchwood for a short time during a virus, but in that time they shared a lot of experience with each other. Specifically, the Vashta Nerada, something Jack hopes he'll never have to run into ever again. He's impressed with the way that someone as young as Hakuba handled that situation, and considers him to be a friend, even if their friendship is mostly created by the virus that had them meet up in the first place.
Claire Bennet
Possibly one of the only people ever to understand what Jack really has to go through on a daily basis, Claire is a good friend to Jack, even if they've only really met the once in person. He hopes that he can be something of a mentor for her in terms of immortality, but at the same time she helps him by making him realize that just because they can't die doesn't mean they aren't people too. He's concerned that she's going to be immortal in the same way he is, with the living forever bit, rather than in the can't be killed bit, because he knows what sort of an effect it had on him, and he wouldn't wish that on anyone else. He's glad that he could be there for her after that incident recently with her kidnapping, and he hopes that she'll trust him and come to him about these sorts of things later as well. He never had anyone to help him through this sort of thing, when he first became immortal, so he's hoping that she'll take advantage of the opportunity that he never had, and find support in him like she did that once.
Kurt Hummel
Jack sees the special person that Kurt is, and the fact that he's a lot different than most of the 21st century teenagers out there. He wants Kurt to be comfortable with who he is and what he feels, in hopes that more people will be of the same open-minded opinion, that these sorts of things don't really matter, and that they're going to be taking one step closer to the way things are when he grows up. He's concerned with Kurt's bullying situation, but unlike a lot of others, Jack believes that the administration has failed Kurt in protecting him, rather than any sort of mistake on Kurt's part. He's going to keep a close eye on that situation, to make sure nothing too horrible happens to him.
If your character isn't on here and you think that they should be, just drop me a comment here, and I'll fix that ASAP. I will try to keep this updated as much as I can, although I apologize now if I get a bit slow about that.
