Title: Birthday Wedding
Author: kamelli
Pairing: Kamenashi Kazuya x Nishioka Tsuyoshi
Rating: PG-ish
Genre: Angst
Summary: It’s indeed a good idea to get married on your own birthday.

A/N: My second attempt to write a TsuyoKame fic. I’m desperate to have more people to write about this pairing because I am seriously am not good at it. I feel like I’m not giving this pairing justice. I hope more writers will appreciate this adorable pair and will start to get inspired soon. More fics, happier fandom! 

“Isn’t it a good time to get married on our birthday?”

“Hmm…well, I think that’s not a bad idea. So whose birthday? Yours? Or mine?”

“No, no. I mean, in general. It’s nice to have a double celebration every time, isn’t it?”

“Getting married on Christmas will be fine too, then?”

“Well, I don’t think that would be very special. Your birthday is about you. And if you get married on your birthday, you will also remember your partner every time you acknowledge your date of birth. It’s kinda romantic to have the idea that you were born alone but then blah blah years after, you are celebrating on the same day, only this time, it’s with your destined person. Like the love made you alive again…made you complete…or something…” Kame said with his voice becoming smaller and smaller just like how his confidence lessened on what he’s saying. His lover’s amused look made him want to hide his embarrassment with infuriation. “Okay, whatever. You know what? I think I’ll just go home…”

“Hey, hey! Babe, calm down. I actually think it’s a brilliant thought.” Tsuyo hurriedly said as he grabbed his lover’s arm before he completely ascends from his comfortable position on bed. Fortunately, his statement made Kame stop and look back.

“You do?”

“Of course. It’s brilliantly amusing especially on how you say it, being cute and all.”

“I am so out of here!” Kame slapped Tsuyo’s hand and then tightened the knot of his robe.

“You’re not going anywhere! Come back here!” Tsuyo had no choice but to stand up from his cosy position. He pulled his lover to his embrace before it completely head to the bathroom and prepare to leave. Kame tried to break free but he hugged the man tighter as he whispered softly, “I like you being all…dreamy~”

“I am not ‘dreamy’ at all!! But you know what, fuck it! It’s not as if I’ll do ‘that’ thing any time soon and I think I will not say this stupidity when I turned wrinkly and not ‘cute’ anymore.” By this time, Kame started hitting the arms hugging him to escape but to no avail.

“Come on now, babe. Don’t be like that~ I will marry you. In fact, I want to marry you right now if not for the fact that I really think getting married on your birthday is a nice idea. You know I want to marry you. It’s you who doesn’t want to.”

“Shut up. As if we can.”

“Sure we can. I told you before I have friends who tied the knot overseas and was not publicized, right? You know people too. You know it’s possible and it’s also about time. That Minnesota Twins contract is is set for me. In a few years or maybe just months, it’s good to go and then we can do it there.”

“Why do you keep…”

“I keep bringing it up because I want to! I want to marry you. You just need to tell me you want it too.” As he said that, he didn’t know if it’s Kazuya’s body that stilled inside his embrace or if it’s his own heart.

Yes, he kept on bringing it up because he wants it so much. He wants it so much that it’s even a miracle he can stop himself from proposing every single time he sees the man that he loves. But, maybe, the silence he gets every time he attempted is keeping him from saying it again and again. After all, he has to take care of his heart too.

“Tsuyoshi, I’m…”

“We’ll do it on your birthday, then.” Tsuyo hurriedly said to change the course of the conversation. He doesn’t want to hear it again. “July 27 will be in the middle of summer and our guests, even if they’re just a handful, will kill us with the kind of costumes they’ll wear under that heat.”

“Costumes?”

“Well, they should all be badass when they’re chosen to attend it. So if it’s on February, we’re going to have Harry Potter slash the Night After Christmas as theme.”

“No one will attend if the theme is that difficult to pull off.”

“I’ll force them to. Or they can have an Avengers-themed costumes too. Or their baseball uniforms. Their pick.”

“Stupid.” Kame responded with a small smile he’s trying to hide through annoyance and a strong slap on his lover’s head.

He has to take care of his heart. But it is always worth it to keep on trying for this man.

“Hi. It’s Kamenashi.”

“Oh…hey.”

Pfft. As if he doesn’t know and still needs an introduction. The first syllable is already a dead giveaway in guessing who the person on the other end of the line is. Dreaming of this call to ever happen since a year ago is, perhaps, one of the reasons why he’s so sure.

“Do you have time to talk now? J-just…on the phone, of course.” Kame’s voice sounds measured and practiced but still made little slips because he knows this guy also cutely stumbles when he tries so hard. A small smile grazed his lips. It’s been so long.

“It’s okay. What is it about?” He doesn’t want to admit that he did some practice too.

“I heard from Ishiyama-san. Congratulations.”

He practiced for a long time but it seems he can never master it like any game play on the field. He hopes someone took down notes of the right tactics to pull and give it to him so he can just recite it now to cover the emptiness of his head. He thought he had one. Then again, he probably hadn’t written anything because he never really understood a thing.

Since Tsuyoshi’s head is still clouded, he has no clue if he can answer to that, or if he’s even expected to. Kame should say more just to kill the continuously building tension. However, the heavy silence is not giving any hint of conclusion to this awkward situation. And then, Tsuyo heard a deep sigh like something is to break free.

“Shit…goddamn it! I can’t…Hey, can you just give me…” What the…

“Kamenashi-kun, we’ll start the shoot in ten minutes. The director’s already asking for you in the studio.”

Silence lingered on the background. But what’s more prominent in Tsuyo’s hearing now is the tensed breathing of Kame. Whether he can really hear it or just in his imagination, he sensed some anxiousness in Kame’s last words before he was interrupted. Could it be…

“Kazuya…”

“Sorry, I need to go.”

“Wait! You’re the one who called me and then you’re going to say that same shit again?”

“I already told you what I needed to…”

“KAMENASHI!! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO THAT STUDIO AND…”

“WHY ARE YOU STILL ANGRY NOW? I’m not the one who will get married and will have a good life alongside a whole family!! All I have is this job that I’m going to now. This job that I will lose completely if I just stop and reconsider! Unlike yours, I can’t have both worlds! It’s all or nothing for me. So what do you still want me to say??”

The pregnant silence on both end of the line was like posing a gun to shoot. It doesn’t give destruction yet, but it’s there. Foreboding.

Desolated, Tsuyoshi finally grasped that he doesn’t have the right to say what his heart is desperate to. ‘You can say that you want me too. You don’t know how much that will mean to me.’ No. Not anymore. He already decided before he made this choice that he will not be selfish any longer. He broke the dam as Kame said those words. It’s now time for him to speak for the best.

“I’m sorry. You’re right…and I’m glad you’re right.” This is for the best…

Kame’s heart stopped. The destruction.

At the background on Kame’s side, Tsuyoshi can hear another staff coming in to call the actor. It seems people will always need Kame. They’re lucky they’re the one chosen to be attended to. They don’t know how much.

But maybe with this, he’ll start believing what his mind and Kame has been telling him. At last, he can take care of his heart.

“By the way, I’ve decided to register the marriage on Tuesday*. It’s a good time.”

Tuesday…indeed, a good time.

“I see. It probably is…a perfect time.”

“Yeah.”

More calling at the background. The more words the staff uttered, the tighter Kame gripped his phone. He’s not ready to take the shot yet. But he already made a move to push the bullet…maybe he has no choice.

“I need to go.”

“I know. You have a good…”

The line was cut.

He did pull the trigger. But he doesn’t want to see the pooling of the blood or if he even missed. More importantly, he doesn’t want to feel the impact on his right hand.

*July 27, 2010, the day Tsuyoshi Nishioka got married, was a Tuesday.
