"Chanyeol-ah, I brought a friend today," Joonmyun gestured towards the shorter male and opened his eyes for approval from the other.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Baekhyun," Baekhyun extended a hand towards Chanyeol and slightly tilted his head as he showed a shy smile.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, I'm Chanyeol. Any friend of Joonmyun is a friend of mine," Chanyeol grasped the other's hand and returned the smile with a grin, teeth all perfectly aligned.
"Anyways, can I leave you here for just a few? Kyungsoo just texted me," Joonmyun questioned with an look of urgency on his face and an expression that was around the lines of if you don't let me go, I'm going to have to take drastic measures. Baekhyun quietly chuckled and nodded towards the other as a sign that it was okay.
"Thanks, I owe you one. Chanyeol can be a bit tiring, but he'll keep you company," Joonmyun called out as he dodged Chanyeol's jabs and went towards Kyungsoo's English class.
Chanyeol turned back to Baekhyun to start a possible conversation with the other, but his eyes were focused on something else. Following the direction that he was looking in, Chanyeol noticed Baekhyun was still watching the same spot that Joonmyun was in just a few minutes ago.
He walked up towards Baekhyun and reached out one of his long limbs to shake a hand in front of the other's face.
"Hey, Baekhyun? You okay?" Chanyeol asked as Baekhyun woke up from his trance-like state and changed his view to look directly at the taller male.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Baekhyun nodded and followed the other towards a cozy booth in the corner.
"Need anything to drink?" Chanyeol asked as he stood up to order a coffee.
"A hazelnut latte, if you don't mind," Baekhyun responded, not forgetting to add one of his signature eye smiles afterwards. Chanyeol nodded and walked a couple of steps to reach the counter and placed their order.
While waiting for the other to return with their drinks, Baekhyun stared at his phone and began to brush his finger against the background picture. It was a picture of Joonmyun and he had taken it while the other was taking a nap. Unlike his phone, Baekhyun couldn't caress Joonmyun any time he wanted because the other wasn't his.
He was Joonmyun's, but Joonmyun wasn't his.
"Kyungsoo, you're the one who texted me to come here," Joonmyun spoke in an amorous manner as he tapped the pencil on top of the other's desk to get his attention. Kyungsoo slightly glanced up from his textbook to acknowledge the other and went back to his book. Discontent with the reaction given, Joonmyun leaned forward and gripped the other by his chin.
"I can hardly imagine what could be so interesting about allusions," he noted while sliding the book off the desk, only to receive an exasperated sigh and arms reaching out for the textbook.
"At least allusions don't act like a clingy boyfriend," Kyungsoo retorted while the other mocked a hurt expression with a hand over his chest. After staring at Joonmyun for a second, Kyungsoo playfully shoved the other by the shoulder and reached over to take his textbook back. Smirking at Kyungsoo's failed attempt to take back his precious English textbook, Joonmyun placed a finger on the other's forehead and pushed him back.
"Ah, trying to get this? Just try and reach for it and I'll give it to you," Joonmyun teased, but the underlying tone implied that Kyungsoo wasn't going to be reading about allusions any time soon.
"Kim Joonmyun," Kyungsoo called out with a strict look on his face and crossed his arms against his chest. "Unlike you, there are actually students trying to study for their finals, so why don't you be slightly helpful and just go back to sleep or something," he continued on, quietly cheering on the inside once he received his book back.
"Someone's crossing the border towards the sensitive side today," he replied before taking out his own textbook and gently placing his head onto it. "I'll have you know that this is how I retain information. I'm literally mashing heads with English literature itself," Joonmyun mused, flipping around to find a comfortable spot.
Kyungsoo picked up two of his fingers and was contemplating whether or not to flick the other on the head, but thought against it. He didn't want to endanger any more of the few brain cells that Joonmyun had left. Kyungsoo turned back to his chapter on allusions and let Joonmyun carry himself off into a daytime trance.
"Oh, can you wake me up in around 10 minutes? I have to go back to Baekhyun for a second. Left Chanyeol with him and I'm not sure what he's capable of," Joonmyun murmured into his arm and Kyungsoo silently thanked that the other wasn't watching him because he froze visibly. The hand that was gripping onto his textbook slowly loosened and Kyungsoo hesitantly bit his lips.
Because it had only been a week since he learned about Joonmyun's true relationship with Baekhyun and Kyungsoo hadn't been able to ask the other about it yet.
"Oh, so you major in Applied Music? That's cool, I take Business Law," Chanyeol nodded as he sipped on his cup of caffe latte.
"Not trying to offensive here, but the name of it doesn't really make it seem all that amusing," Baekhyun replied while playing with his empty cup.
"None taken. Actually if the name makes it seem boring, then it's quite aptly named," he chuckled, mixing with Baekhyun's melodious laughter.
"So, how do you know Joonmyun hyung?" Baekhyun questioned, only to receive a pair of wide eyes looking back at him.
"Hyung? You're younger than him? I mean, I guess it fits in with your height and all then," Chanyeol teased as Baekhyun glared at him and replied that it's average height and plenty of people are just like him and that he is completely normal.
"But yeah, I'm a year younger than Joonmyun hyung. What about you?" Baekhyun questioned, though he could somewhat estimate that the other's age was probably around Joonmyun's if he was just calling him by his name.
"Oh, we're the same age then!" Chanyeol exclaimed while scooting his chair next to the other, overjoyed that he finally made a friend of the same age.
"If we're the same age, isn't it a bit ill-mannered to not call Joonmyun hyung, hyung?" Baekhyun asked, but was only replied by Chanyeol raising an arm around his shoulders.
"Not really. I like to think that everyone's my friend, so honorifics aren't really necessary," he beamed as Baekhyun stared for a moment at him, trying to take in everything the other was saying. "But anyways, back to your original question. I got to know Joonmyun because he's my neighbor," Chanyeol added.
"Oh, you dorm in the A wing then? I'm right down the hall. We should get together again sometime," Baekhyun suggested, and Chanyeol nodded in agreement. "Although that would be doing you a service, seeing as how you don't seem to have any friends of your age," he added as an afterthought, not forgetting to follow it up with his bright laughter.
"I see someone's trying to be a comedian," Chanyeol retorted, murmuring that he has friends, it's just that he's yet to locate them. "Anyways, how do you know Joonmyun then?"
"We just met through one of our classes and I guess you could say we matched up well with each other," Baekhyun responded, not really thinking much to the question.
"Oh, so like a senior to junior relationship?" Chanyeol questioned, a bit curious when the other boy froze and stopped twirling his empty cup.
"Y-yeah, something like that," he muttered while trying to avoid eye contact with the other.
Telling someone that you're like a mistress isn't really something to bring up during your first conversation with them.
Kyungsoo stared at the other, tapping his pencil on the desk. Should I wake him up to see Baekhyun or just say I forgot about it? The thing with Joonmyun was that he was quite oblivious about his surroundings. Although he thought he hid his secrets well, Kyungsoo found each and every one of them out without needed to really try. Including the one with Baekhyun.
"Byun Baekhyun, you know yourself that you're the one who can't end this."
Woken up by a fairly angry voice, Kyungsoo pulled himself out of bed and quietly opened the door out of his bedroom.
"Don't joke around with me."
Perking up his ears, he listened carefully and realized it was Joonmyun's voice. He followed the sound trail and saw Joonmyun out on the patio, talking furiously with someone over his mobile phone.
"I could walk away from this any time I want to. In the end, you're the one who's going to come back to me, asking for another chance," Joonmyun fiercely whispered into the phone while Kyungsoo tried inching closer to hear him a bit more.
"Are you really that insecure?" Joonmyun questioned, pausing a bit for Baekhyun to respond.
"Fine, I like you. A lot. Happy? Good night then," Joonmyun replied before ending the phone call and turning around. Kyungsoo quickly tried to run back to the bedroom, but became tangled in his escape attempt and fell to the floor.
"Kyungsoo? Are you awake?" Joonmyun walked over to the other and helped him get up from the floor. Once Kyungsoo was back on his feet, Joonmyun smiled and slightly kissed him.
"It's too early in the morning. Let's go back to sleep," he murmured into Kyungsoo's lips before detaching himself and walking towards the bedroom. Kyungsoo half-heartedly nodded and followed soon after.
There was something going on between Joonmyun and Baekhyun and Kyungsoo felt a sinking feeling because he was clueless as to what it was.
Baekhyun wasn't sure when it all began or how it even came to be. All he knew was that he currently Joonmyun's second, which gave him barely any privileges. He would be around when Joonmyun needed something new in his life, someone different from Kyungsoo.
He played around with his mobile phone for a few minutes before deciding to call Joonmyun.
"Hello?" He spoke as the dial tone ended.
"Baekhyun, do you know what time it is? Are you seriously calling me at-" Joonmyun took a pause to check the time before continuing on, "4 in the morning?"
"Sorry, forgot people normally sleep at this time. I had to ask you something," Baekhyun nonchalantly apologized and took a seat on his couch.
"My lord, this better be something worth asking. If not, I swear to god, I will end your life," Joonmyun groaned, eyes still drooped with sleep.
"If you were given a chance, would you leave Kyungsoo?" Baekhyun questioned, teeth scraping against his lips.
"Are you really asking this at 4 in the morning? And no, I wouldn't," Joonmyun murmured.
"Then why are we even doing this to ourselves?" Baekhyun asked with a tone that came out more sharply than he had planned it to. He silently shook his head at his actions because he was crossing the line towards being desperate and needy.
"Are you calling because of our relationship? Byun Baekhyun, you know yourself that you're the one who can't end this," Joonmyun muttered in hushed tones as to not wake Kyungsoo up.
"In the end, I'll be leaving you," Baekhyun quietly whispered over the phone, fingers gripping onto the couch's cushions.
"Don't joke around with me," Joonmyun harshly replied back. As their conversation fevered up, Baekhyun held back his tears and continued to respond.
"I'm not. I'll be leaving and you will regret not being able to love me when you were given the chance," Baekhyun choked out, tears beginning to form without his consent.
"I could walk away from this any time I want to. In the end, you're the one who's going to come back to me, asking for another chance," Joonmyun fiercely spat into the phone as he paced back and forth on the patio. Baekhyun took a pause to cover his mouth and prevent any sobs from escaping him.
"Are you really that insecure?" Joonmyun questioned, pausing a bit for Baekhyun to respond.
"Did you know this? You never told me that you loved me. I probably love you just as much, if not more than, Kyungsoo, but you won't reciprocate those words," Baekhyun spoke, hand shaking much more visibly than before.
"Fine, I like you. A lot. Happy? Good night then," Joonmyun replied before hanging up on Baekhyun. Baekhyun pulled in his knees and wrapped his arms around them. Joonmyun was wrong, Baekhyun wouldn't be content with his replies because it was always that he 'liked' Baekhyun, never that he 'loved' him.
He was lost in a maze, an endless maze that he couldn't pull himself out of.
"Shoot. It's already 8 and I haven't even started my paper yet. If I don't want my life risked on the borderlines of being alive and going to hell, I need to get home and finish this. I'll call you later?" Chanyeol rambled on as he stood up from his seat and zipped up his jacket.
"Finish your paper first and then maybe I'll pick up," Baekhyun laughed and waved to the other before getting up to leave himself. Just as he was about to head out the door, a hand was placed on his shoulder.
"Wait, Baekhyun! I need to talk to you."
Baekhyun turned around to see who it was and slightly cringed his face when his eyes came in contact with Kyungsoo's. Kyungsoo's face was definitely one of the few that he didn't want to see, but apparently some greater force was just having a joy with not listening to him.
"I don't really have much to say to you, so can you make it quick?" Baekhyun replied, not even bothering to sit down at a table. He really didn't have any interest with holding a conversation with Joonmyun's little boyfriend.
"Sure, sorry. I just wanted to know if something was going on between you and Joonmyun?" Kyungsoo quietly questioned, eyes staring at his fingers. Baekhyun froze and felt like he had just tried to swallow a boulder.
"I'm not sure what you're asking exactly? We have a senior to junior relationship, that's all there is," Baekhyun stuttered, hoping that he didn't look as nervous on the outside as he felt on the inside.
"Actually, the truth is... I overheard Joonmyun talking to you on the phone last week," Kyungsoo murmured. Staring at Kyungsoo, Baekhyun swallowed back his saliva and rolled his thoughts around for a suitable answer.
"We were just talking about some assignment, no need to wo-"
"I heard him saying he liked you," Kyungsoo interrupted as Baekhyun widened his eyes. "Is there something going on? I know it might come off as a bit rude that I'm accusing the two of you like this, but I feel like I have a right to know," he added on. Baekhyun let out a deep sigh and bent his head down, imitating the position of those who are ashamed.
"Kyungsoo, I know you would rather hear what's exactly going on from Joonmyun hyung, but from what I've seen, he's not exactly the type to talk about these things," Baekhyun spoke, leaving Kyungsoo to become even more curious.
"But Joonmyun hyung, he's not really as great as you think he is," Baekhyun continued on.
"What do you mean?" Kyungsoo questioned, wearing a straight facial expression and using a monotone pronunciation.
"I'm not exactly sure how to reword things to make them sound better, so I'll just come straight out to you. Joonmyun hyung's cheating on you with me," Baekhyun whispered the last part, but it was still loud enough for the other to hear.
Baekhyun was waiting for the other to become violent or tell Baekhyun that he was lying, but Kyungsoo stayed rather calm and only gave out a quiet 'oh'.
"Well, I guess it's not really cheating. It's more like a give and take thing," Baekhyun murmured as he looked straight at Kyungsoo.
"I give him love and he just takes it all."
"Are you insane?" Joonmyun questioned as he shook Baekhyun harshly by the shoulders. "Did you think anything good would happen by telling Kyungsoo? Did you think something was going to change between you and me?" he added on. Baekhyun stared with lifeless eyes at the other and used his strength to push away.
"No, I didn't anticipate for anything to happen. Kyungsoo just came over and wanted the truth, so I gave it to him. He has a right to know," Baekhyun retorted, hurt at the fact that he was receiving all the blame for this. If Joonmyun had just stayed faithful, none of this would have begun.
"I'm not even sure what to do with you right now. I need to go mend things up with Kyungsoo, so have fun trying to fix things up with yourself," Joonmyun spat out as he left the lecture hall to look for Kyungsoo.
Baekhyun gave a small smile before looking down at his phone and dialing a couple of numbers. He placed the phone by his ear and listened for the dial tone.
"Hey. Yeah, it's Baekhyun. Say listen, are you busy today?"
"So, why are we here exactly?" Baekhyun questioned as he stared at the brightly lit board in front of him.
"Didn't you say you took music or something?" Chanyeol asked back, only to receive a strange look from the other.
"Applied Music, yes. But how is that relevant to this?" he inquired, backing away from an obscenely dressed man.
"Well, there's music played in the background and you take music, so look at that. A pair of similarities already," Chanyeol pointed out, not missing the look of disbelief on Baekhyun's face.
"B-b-but this is an arcade! We're kind of near our twenties now," Baekhyun sputtered. Although resistance was futile once he was gripped by the wrist, because Chanyeol was just a bit taller than he was and he was practically powerless to the other's strength.
"Am I the one who desperately called for some entertainment in their pitiful lives?" Chanyeol mocked, poking at Baekhyun's sides.
"One, I did not sound desperate at all and two, did you just call my life pitiful? Weren't you the one who told me you still needed to locate your friends?" Baekhyun smirked and laughed when Chanyeol shot a look of disbelief towards him.
"Hey, let's not be rude to the hero who just saved you from the evil clutches of boredom, alright?" Chanyeol joked, causing Baekhyun to crack a smile and shove Chanyeol into the arcade.
"If we're going to spend our money on useless games, we better be spending it right," Baekhyun mused as he dragged Chanyeol towards the Dance Dance Revolution machine,
"I'll have you know that I was the regional champion for this game, You would be going up against a professional," Chanyeol spoke, only to receive a stinging slap on the arm.
"Stop opening your mouth and just start a set," Baekhyun replied as he began to tie his shoelaces tighter just in case they fall off while he's getting his groove on.
'Heartless, mindless. No one. Who care about me?'
"Elementary, my dear Baekhyun. Thinking that you could win against this professional. It was cute to see a rookie try," Chanyeol teased while they cashed in their tickets
"Gloat all you want, I completely destroyed you in Skee-Ball before," Baekhyun retorted, motioning towards the Skee-Ball machines.
"That game was made for short people. You just got an unfair advantage," Chanyeol chuckled when Baekhyun's face turned red as he went back to explaining that his height was normal and that Chanyeol's abnormality caused him to become so tall.
"Today was fun, though. It was nice avoiding reality for a change," Baekhyun smiled as they headed back to their dorms.
"Reality? You're only like 20, what kind of real life problems would you have to escape from?" Chanyeol asked, adding a hearty laughter right after it.
"More than you would imagine," Baekhyun whispered.
"Kyungsoo, are you home? I brought Baekhyun here," Joonmyun called out for the other and smiled once he appeared in sight. Baekhyun slightly frowned at the difference in Joonmyun's facial expression, but shrugged it off.
"I'm not really sure why I'm here, but Joonmyun hyung said you needed to talk to me about something?" Baekhyun questioned and inched closer once he noticed that the other was staying silent. "Any reason as to why you're ignoring me?" he added.
"You're really pitiful, do you know that?" Kyungsoo bit his lip as he whispered out to Baekhyun. Hearing these words come from Kyungsoo, who only spoke in kind tones; both Joonmyun and Baekhyun were shocked.
"There are so many other people you could love, but you just had to pick Joonmyun. Why is that? Why did you have to go after someone you can't even have?" Kyungsoo asked and Baekhyun looked down at the floor because these were the exact questions that he would ask himself.
"Why couldn't you just find someone else that wasn't taken?" Clear drops began to roll down Kyungsoo's face as Joonmyun turned to wipe them off, leaving Baekhyun to stand there awkwardly.
"You shouldn't do this to yourself, this just makes you pathetic. Just please don't come between us again," Kyungsoo pleaded to Baekhyun who felt like a million arrows were shot through his body.
Did you hear that, Byun Baekhyun? This makes you pathetic.
Baekhyun ran towards the door and quickly slipped on his shoes before escaping from Joonmyun's dorm. He finally heard what he had been waiting to hear for quite some time.
That's right, Baekhyun. You're pathetic.
Baekhyun used all his might to run away from the dormitories, but soon felt his body run into someone else's.
"Baekhyun?"
Baekhyun glanced up to see Chanyeol looking down at him, and proceeded to bend down his head so that he couldn't see Baekhyun's tear-stained face.
"Wait, are you crying?" Chanyeol exclaimed as he tried to pull up Baekhyun's face by the chin, but he was pushed away by the other.
"No, I'm fine. Just please, leave me alone for now," Baekhyun replied while he continued his mindless running.
"Byun Baekhyun!" The tall, lanky boy chased after another boy with a more petite structure than his and clamped his hand over the other's wrist. The shorter boy turned around for a second, but went back to facing front with a straight expression as he shook his wrist out from the other's grasp.
"I would rather you just leave me alone for now," Baekhyun quietly whispered as he stared at nothing ahead of him. The taller male, Chanyeol, tried to grasp onto the other's wrist desperately, only to have his hand pushed back towards him.
"Pitiful, isn't it? The whole world seems to be so fucking happy, but I can't be given that kind of happiness," he gently added on.
"Baekhyun, what happened?" Chanyeol inched closer to Baekhyun and questioned him in a manner that almost demanded an answer. A slight smile appeared on the other's face as he looked towards Chanyeol.
"Do you know what kind of relationship I really have with Joonmyun hyung?" Baekhyun questioned, speaking with a dejected undertone.
"Didn't you tell me you had a senior to junior relationship with him?" Chanyeol responded and Baekhyun gently shook his head.
"I'm his second. Someone he can play around with once he gets bored with Kyungsoo," Baekhyun replied bitterly. By the look shown on Chanyeol's face, Baekhyun knew that the other understood what he meant.
"So, were you coming in between Joonmyun and Kyungsoo?" Chanyeol questioned.
"Say I did, would it be selfish of me if I was proud of what I did?" Baekhyun replied back to the other and by the way he enunciated his words, Chanyeol could tell it was more of a rhetorical question and even if it wasn't, he didn't have a solid answer to give him.
Brushing dirt off from the concrete, Baekhyun sat down on one of the steps and Chanyeol followed soon after. "Personally, I'm not really sure why I do this to myself. I'm always second. Always fucking second," Baekhyun breathed out. He lifted a finger and twirled it around Chanyeol's lightly curled locks.
"I'm quite the daft one, aren't I? Coming in between them like that," Baekhyun questioned and added a shaky laughter afterwards. "It was ridiculous of me to think that I even had a chance," he added on.
"No, it was ridiculously selfish of Joonmyun to try and balance the two of you at once," Chanyeol replied, allowing Baekhyun's fingers to travel their way through his hair a bit more. "It's his fault for not being able to choose," he retorted, but only received a hollow chuckle in return.
"Joonmyun hyung already chose. Actually, he already chose from the beginning," Baekhyun started out as his fingers seemed to create a tighter grasp on the railings.
"It was nice being given his attention, but even if I was occasionally the apple of his eye, he never told me that he loved me," Baekhyun gently spoke as tears began forming at the corner of his eyes, dropping down like little crystals.
"To be frank, you could almost call me a masochist. Joonmyun hyung obviously only had room in his heart for Kyungsoo, but I accepted that. Isn't it pretty pathetic?" he inquired while trying to choke out his words that were mixed in with tears.
"At the end of the day, he didn't have eyes for anyone else but Kyungsoo. The only person he truly loved was Kyungsoo and I was just something to play around with when he was bored. I was his second choice," Baekhyun whispered and he dropped his head down to hide away the tears that were uncontrollably sliding down his fair face.
"So why don't you give him up and look for someone better?" Chanyeol questioned, looking straight at the other's head and as if he was replying to Chanyeol, Baekhyun shook his head.
"It's just really tiring now, knowing that I can't become anything but second. That I'll just never reach the summit and end up slowly sinking back down to the bottom," Baekhyun replied.
He lifted his head up to wipe away his tears, but widened his eyes when he saw Chanyeol inching closer to him. Before he could ask what the other was doing, Baekhyun was enveloped in a warm embrace and he felt something stir inside of him.
"I could become that better person," Chanyeol gently whispered into Baekhyun's ear and the other started to shake violently before harshly pushing Chanyeol away.
"Is this how pathetic I am to your eyes too? You know, even when Joonmyun hyung played around with me, I didn't really care. To be honest, I expected it," Baekhyun shakily spoke as he tried to balance himself up. "Are you doing this to me because it worked for Joonmyun hyung? Thinking it would work again or something?" Baekhyun continued as he backed away from Chanyeol, who was hesitantly walking after him.
"Baekhyun, if this is uncomfortable for you, I can take back what I said," Chanyeol interrupted, but the other childishly placed two hands over his ears and closed his eyes.
"You were just playing with me from the start, weren't you? Just like everyone else," Baekhyun cried out, still cupping his hands over his ears. The tears from before began to roll down his face once again, leaving a moistened shine to Baekhyun's face.
Chanyeol desperately tried to get the other to stop his actions, but his attempts were futile. Baekhyun pulled his hands away from his ears and slightly gripped his fingers into a clenched fist.
"Baekhyun, just forget I said anything. Please stop crying," Chanyeol earnestly requested, but only received a flippant wave of the hand from the other.
"I thought that I would be okay with Joonmyun hyung not loving me now because I believed in karma. I thought that if I loved him now, he would reciprocate that love right back later on, but I was wrong. You can tell by the way that he looks at Kyungsoo," Baekhyun began.
"Do you know what's really amusing though? Watching Kyungsoo. Watching him seem so anxious, always wondering just when Joonmyun hyung would leave him when at the end of the day, Joonmyun hyung would always return back to Kyungsoo's arms," he mused while biting back any bitter emotions towards Kyungsoo.
"To be honest, I'm not even sure why I'm acting like this to you. Why I'm getting this angry at you, I mean. What I've become is something really pathetic and the only person to blame is myself," he choked out as he closed his eyes tightly.
"This ultimately isn't something I can blame on anyone else. Not Joonmyun hyung for leading me to believe that my own time with him would come and not Kyungsoo for being the only one who could capture Joonmyun hyung's heart," Baekhyun whispered while lifting his head to stare ahead at Chanyeol.
"And I really can't blame you for trying to befriend me," he cracked a slight smile as he murmured the last part.
"This problem all started with me. If I hadn't decided to start liking Joonmyun hyung, then none of this would've happened," Baekhyun added.
"But then we wouldn't have really met," Chanyeol murmured in a low whisper, but loud enough for the other to hear. "Can I be honest with you?" he questioned and turned towards Baekhyun for a sign of approval. Baekhyun hesitantly nodded and motioned for Chanyeol to continue on.
"I asked Joonmyun to introduce me to you," Chanyeol quickly blurted out his words and looked up to face Baekhyun. The expression that Baekhyun had on his face was a mixture of confusion and shock.
"To be truthful, I just always saw you hanging around Joonmyun and I guess I wanted to know more about you, whether or not it was because I was interested about you or interested in you," Chanyeol spoke while Baekhyun's face started to distort into a strange look of curiosity as he peered back at the taller male.
"And so, since I'm guessing you already know what's going on, I'm going to ask you. Why did Joonmyun hyung introduce you to me when he knew you were seeking after me as more than a normal companion?" Baekhyun questioned, genuinely curious about the reason as to why Joonmyun allowed himself to introduce Chanyeol to the other.
"Actually, I'm not sure either. And I didn't know about this relationship or relationships, should I say, either," Chanyeol responded.
"But anyways, if you calmed down a bit now... I really did mean what I said before," Chanyeol murmured, staring at his fingers.
"I know I'm not exactly Joonmyun, but I could try to be perfect for you? At least... To me, you would be first," Chanyeol continued. Baekhyun glanced at Chanyeol and looked back at the floor again.
How would it feel to finally become first...
"So... Congratulations. You know, about you and Chanyeol," Joonmyun spoke, hand stretched out towards Baekhyun. "This is my apology and congratulations handshake. You're supposed to shake it," Joonmyun mused while Baekhyun looked at him with an incredulous expression.
"Joonmyun hyung, there's really nothing that's going to change about you, is there?" he questioned with his melodious laughter surrounding the two.
"As long as my feet are on the ground and I can breathe this air, I'm afraid I won't," Joonmyun replied, grin stretched across his face. "And as long as Kyungsoo's by my side as well," he quickly added.
"I'm glad everything's settled and all, but you never know if I might still be harboring feelings for you, so don't bring up Kyungsoo," Baekhyun joked, using one hand to slightly punch at Joonmyun's arm. "And that's for all the times that you did bring him up."
"Am I supposed to be sentimental at this point and tell you that I deserved that, because I really don't feel like I did," Joonmyun retorted with a small frown on his lips to match his furrowed eyebrows. Baekhyun gave the other a slight glare before punching his arm again.
"I hardly think I'm a punching bag. Anyways, why did you want to see me?" Joonmyun questioned towards the other.
"I heard from a little birdie that Chanyeol asked you to introduce him to me," Baekhyun mused with pursed lips.
"One, Chanyeol is most definitely not little since I'm guessing he was the one who told you. And yes, he did," Joonmyun admitted, using his fingers to emphasize Chanyeol's size difference with a bird.
"Why did you exactly? I mean, you had to know that Chanyeol wasn't just looking to be friends with me," Baekhyun inquired, one eyebrow arched.
"I didn't want to be selfish anymore," Joonmyun responded with his eyes turned away from being in contact with Baekhyun's. "I didn't want to hurt the both of you," he added.
"So you knew then. If you knew it was hurting both me and Kyungsoo, why were you doing it?" Baekhyun questioned with a slightly more infuriated tone than before.
"I really don't know how to say this exactly, because no matter how I word it, it makes me sound like an ass. To be frank, I just wanted the both of you. Even if I loved Kyungsoo, there was just something inside me that wouldn't allow myself to let you go. I know it sounds selfish to no extent," Joonmyun apologetically stated, fingers tapping on his thighs.
"But that's why I let Chanyeol in the picture. It wasn't possible for me to let you go, but I thought it would be okay if you left on your own will," he continued, pausing to allow Baekhyun to soak up his reasoning.
"I couldn't bear seeing you decay as a person by leading you on like this. In some ways, it was my way of hoping that you would finally become happy and forgive me," Joonmyun murmured, taken aback when he saw drops of crystal form near Baekhyun's eyes.
"You know you really suck, right? I really hate you," Baekhyun choked out while throwing punches towards the other. "I really, really hate you. I hate your little boyfriend too," he continued, swinging his arms to and fro.
"I'm really sorry," Joonmyun whispered as he wrapped his arms around the other and quietly hushed him. "But could you stop crying now? If Chanyeol finds out that I made you cry, I'm going to get kicked into the next season," he joked, arms still locking Baekhyun in an embrace.
"But what I'm really sorry about is that I wasn't able to tell you that I loved you. I know it was all you wanted to hear, but I really couldn't," Joonmyun whispered, drawing small circles on the other's back. "It's okay now though, right? You have Chanyeol to cherish you," Joonmyun smiled as he stood up and pulled Baekhyun up with him.
He placed an arm around Baekhyun's shoulders and turned to look at their school, where Chanyeol and Kyungsoo were cautiously eyeing the two. Joonmyun let out a hearty laughter and pointed a finger towards the other two.
"It's nice to know that we finally found our places."
