Hee! I think it's funny that Oh!Great used Hikaru no Go as a reference for the game of go he had in Tenjou Tenge. When you take a look at the books he used as reference for things like martial arts, robotics, motorcycles, kimonos, car crashes, and even bondage, using another manga is pretty high praise. Of course, we all know the amount of research that was put into the Hikaru no Go games, so I guess it's not that much of a surprise. I just like the idea of manga artists reading the works of others on their free time.

I'm currently in the process of watching Juuni Kokki (Twelve Kingdoms). It took me a while to warm up to Youko, but I fell in love with the emperor of En the moment I saw him. Sure, he lounges around with women and wine, but he banters with Enki! Yeah, I love Enki, too. In fact, I really just love the pair of them. They're so laid-back and casual, yet it's clear that they love their kingdom and would do anything to keep it safe.

I've just finished the first arc (first 14 episodes) and I have to say that it's pretty much a gen series for me. I don't really ship the emperor/kirin pairs. Don't know why. Maybe the relationships feel too reliant to me. Like one can't do without the other and vice versa. I prefer for the members in romantic relationships to be independent of each other so that they choose to be together but they can survive apart. The whole "kirin becomes sick if emperor mistreats kirin/kingdom" thing doesn't jive for me. Kirin seem more like advisors and caretakers than potential love interests. But, who knows. I'm only a quarter of the way through the series. They probably develop the concept of the kirin more thoroughly later on.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching some more. It's a deep and slightly angsty series, so it takes a bit of energy and brainpower to process. Not to mention I need to find blocks of time to watch, since they seem to like their cliffhangers.

[Also, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I think Youko and Shouryuu would have a blast as a couple. Argh! Talk about crack pairing! It would never see the light of day, and poor li'l Rakushun would be left behind. (Though I'm not a fan of the Youko/Rakushun pairing either. Rakushun's too soft to be Youko's significant other.) >___< Like I said, this series really gives off the gen vibes to me. Or it refuses to let me sigh at the pretty picture Shouryuu/Youko would make. Because really, the two of them in their casual gear makes me drool. XD~ (Don't mind the rabid fangirl. Move along, move along.)]
