A fine specimen of the Giant Isopod. Do not click if you hate creepy crawlies. It's sort of like a metre-long wood louse. There's a very cool video at the bottom, which I will reproduce here, showing the isopods stripping a fish carcass in time-lapse. Now, given that the other two deep see scavengers which help them are both delicious (I am an unagi-addict, and crab is pretty tasty too), I of course wondered if the isopods were edible -- sources in Japan report they are, and taste like lobster. Another thing to try before I die! And now that I have seen this video, I am considering burial at sea instead of composting.
