The sweet aroma of an omelet flooded Tommy’s nostrils with eagerness. This smell was soon followed by the sound of a hungry tummy. Tommy fluttered his eyes open to find he was facing something he has never faced before.
Bare man chest.
He lifted his head slowly as realization sunk in. He was in a house, in a bed, with the man who saved his fuckin’ life. What happened yesterday? He lay there gathering his thoughts one by one, every incident leading up to this moment. He was in such deep thought that he screamed at the top of his lungs when Alyssa emerged from the other side of the door. Alyssa gasped at the sudden sound and Adam bolted out of bed, looking prepared for a fight.
“God fucking damn. Is this how you guys act when woken up?” Alyssa said exasperated and panting.
Adam’s predator stance subsided as he realized himself that he was in a room with a man and women. Life can be pretty damn intriguing. Tommy erupted into a fit of laughter. Something as simple as a redhead walking into his bedroom shouldn’t scare him. The laughter was soon followed by Adam and Alyssa.
“Wow. What a morning.” Adam said exasperated, grinning from ear to ear. Tommy couldn’t help but stare at Adam’s radiance of light and love, no matter what situation.
“Well, I came in here to tell you lazy bums that breakfast is ready,” She smiled before continuing, “I’ll leave you two alone to get dressed.” The door closed silently behind her. After making themselves presentable, the boys emerged from the bedroom. Adam grabbed Tommy’s hand and squeezed tightly.
“Aww aren’t you guys just adorable.” Alyssa said, making kissy faces.
“Shutup.” Tommy said a little too angry.
“Well fine then. I guess you won’t get food.” She poked her tongue out, placing a plate in front of Tommy. Adam just chuckled at their bickering. It reminded him of his past life, sadly. He didn’t want to think about it right now though.
“So, I’m expecting you guys to find jobs while I’m gone. If you don’t, I’ll kick your ass.” She chewed thoughtfully, “On second thought, I’ll dig up your graves if you don’t. I don’t want moochers.”
“Don’t worry Alyssa, we’ll find jobs. I’ll probably get a gig at a bar for stand-up comedy.”
Both Tommy and Alyssa snorted loudly.
“What? I’m funny!” He said as four disbelieving eyes stared at him.
“Honey, you’ll do better getting a gig in singing. At least you’re good at that.”
Adam made a disapproving noise as he dug into his meal. Tommy was never usually this shy, but Alyssa intimidated him badly. He wasn’t sure if it was her personality, or her hair.
“So Tommy. What are you good at? Besides selling yourself.” She’s so blunt sometimes.
Tommy glared at her but his eyes softened when he saw the teasing sparkle in her eyes, “Well, I used to play guitar about 5 years ago. I probably forgot how to play anyway.” He shrugged.
Adam discretely placed his left hand on Tommy’s thigh and squeezed, causing the older man to do a little yelp.
“Please guys, no foreplay at the table. That’s reserved for the bedroom or couch, whichever you prefer.” She winked at them both before taking her empty plate to the sink.
“So Tommy, ready to look for jobs?” Adam asked.
“No.” Tommy said grumpily, stuffing another big piece of omelet into his mouth.
“You better be.” Alyssa yelled from her bedroom.
When both men were finished eating, they placed their plates in the sink and went to sit in the living room. Tommy didn’t know how it happened, but he was half sitting on Adam’s lap. Realizing this, he scooted over and began to fiddle with his fingers in his lap. He could feel Adam’s eyes on him. He didn’t want to look at them though. Something just wasn’t sitting well with him. Alyssa walked into the living room wearing a corset, mini skirt with fishnets, and stiletto heels. Tommy eyed her outfit with curiosity and said, “You sure you don’t sell yourself?” Everyone chuckled.
“Ha. Ha. No, I don’t. I work at a lesbian bar. I might get lucky tonight.” She did a little happy dance.
They both eyed her peculiarly before saying in unison, “You’re lesbian?”
“Duh. Who doesn’t like pussy?” Adam and Tommy both pointed to themselves and smirked. Alyssa just waved them off and went back into the kitchen.
“She sure is….somethin’.” Tommy said while shaking his head.
“Yeah, but she’s really intelligent and, obviously, fun to be around.” Adam said.
“Wait, then why does she make so much sexual jokes about men if she likes women?”
Adam shrugged, “Never really understood that either. It’s like she’s only attracted to women and gay men.”
“Weird.”
“I know.”
“I hear you guys talking about me. Yes, I fuck women but would trade to be a gay man any day.” She emerged from the kitchen carrying a bag that probably held her lunch. She bent down and kissed both of them on the cheek as they exchanged their goodbyes.
Once she left, Adam got up and turned on the radio before sitting back down. He tried to pull Tommy into his embrace, but Tommy resisted.
“Okay, what’s up with you? You’ve been distant all morning.”
“Nothing. I’m fine.” He said it, but his eyes didn’t agree.
“You’re lying.” Adam ran his hand through his blonde bangs, caressing his scalp.
“Just, this is all weird to me. A house, a bed, other human contact besides customers,” He sighed, “It’s not you, it’s me.”
“That is the most cliché statement in the history of clichés.” Adam chuckled.
“It’s true. I’m just out of my element. And I want to get high so fucking badly. Do you think Alyssa smokes?” Tommy asked, hopeful.
“Doubt it. Besides sex, she’s pretty straightedge. You shouldn’t get high; it’s bad for you. Trust me, I know.”
Fuck.
Tommy felt so empty right now. Like he said, out of his element. He was so used to being on the streets, starving, tired, that all of this was…too much. Yeah, he was happy to have a roof over his head, but it wasn’t him.
“I-I…need to take a walk.”
“I’ll come with.” Adam said while standing up and following Tommy.
“NO! ..I mean…no. I’ll be okay. I’m not going far.” He could feel Adam’s sad eyes bore holes into his back, but he needed to get away for a while and do what he did best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hours passed. Adam couldn’t sit after he left. He tried his best to keep his mind preoccupied. Singing, dancing, listening to music, writing, hell he even attempted at drawing, but the whole time, the thought of something happening to Tommy lingered in the back of his mind. He rubbed his temples as he looked at the digital clock for the twentieth time.
He jumped up in excitement when Tommy walked through the door, hair disheveled and eyes completely blood shot. Adam’s excitement soon diminished when he realized Tommy was high, and maybe more.
“Tommy…” He said cautiously, yet at the same time, it held a lot of power.
Tommy stumbled pass him and went straight to her fridge, “Does the bitch have any booze?” His voice was hoarse and sounded old.
“Hey, don’t call her a bitch. And I already told you, she’s pretty straightedge. What the fuck happened?” Adam reached out to grab Tommy’s arm in concern, but fell over backwards as Tommy reached around with his other hand and punched him.
“FUCK!” He bellowed, gripping his now bleeding nose.
Tommy sobered up pretty quickly after that.
“OH FUCK! I’m so sorry Adam!” He bent down to help Adam up, but Adam pushed him away with his hand that wasn’t grasping his bleeding nose.
If the timing couldn’t be any worse, Alyssa walked in.
“I’m home!” She announced as she locked the door behind her.
“I brought some alcoh……WHAT THE HELL?!” She yelled, dropping her purse and the alcohol on the table and rushing over to Adam.
“I leave you guys for a few hours and you get into a fight? I thought you guys were together?” Her voice was dark and angry.
“I-I…” Tommy tried to spit out an explanation, but nothing came.
“FUCK OFF TOMMY!” Adam yelled while picking himself up, letting Alyssa guide him to the couch.
“Stay here, I’ll bring you a washcloth.”
Tommy was still standing the kitchen, tears spilling down his face and body rigid. He wanted to just kill himself right now.
“You have a lot of nerve.” Alyssa said darkly as she ran the washcloth under the faucet.
“Alyssa…I---“
“No, I want you out Tommy. Adam and I don’t need your bullshit. From the goodness of my heart, I allowed both of you to stay here. But if you don’t have a fucking heart or feelings, you have no obligation to stay here. Now. Get. The. Fuck. Out.”
She walked out of the kitchen to leave Tommy standing and shaking. What is he going to do now?
