Lightbulb moment

So, again I'm super frustrated with my job today, but I had a little mental breakthough on something that would help me work through this. A mentor. In the past, my bosses have really served that role for me. Now that I have a boss that is not my mentor and really keeps me at a distance professionally, I need a mentor from somewhere else. I need it to be a person of color I think, perhaps a woman but not necessarily. In many ways, I find that it is easier to get real feedback from a man, but that might be an over-generalization. I definitely need them to work in higher ed, preferably at the University. I need someone who knows the context that I am working in, and the power relationships involved. I need someone who I think is successful at navigating this environment (that might be the hard part, finding someone who has succeeded but not sold-out or sold others out)

I think it would be helpful. I have people that I can vent to and commiserate with but no one who really gives guidance. And I'm at a point where that is what I need, or I will be cutting someone, or just checking out all together.

I'll have to think about this while I'm out on vacation. Let it marinate a bit and think about possibilities.
